John Fay Garber Jr. was born on Dec. 20, 1942, in Harrisonburg, Va., and passed away at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Thursday, November 28, 2013. He was the seventh child, third son, of John and Anna May (Wenger) Garber. When he was 3 the family moved to Alma, Ontario, Canada, and when he was 13 to Burton, Ohio. At 17 he went to Clarence, N.Y., to work in construction. Several years later he went back to Ontario to attend Bible school where he met Edith Martin who became his wife on July 17, 1965. They lived in Elmira for a little over a year before going to Denver, Colo., to work in a voluntary service program at Byers' Home for Boys for two years. Life's journey then took them to Carlsbad, N.M., where they operated a repair shop for appliances, vacuum cleaners and sewing machines. Two daughters were born there. In 1976 the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. John's main occupation there was construction, remodeling and painting in particular, though he explored many other avenues until health issues forced him to retire. In the years since he especially enjoyed working with wood and writing. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Rose Garber and Virginia (Mark) Hutchins, all of Twin Falls; brothers Leonard (Doris) Garber of Ontario and David (Carol) Garber of Pennsylvania; sisters Rhoda Cressman and Lois (Milton) Lehman of Pennsylvania, Phoebe (John) Hershey and Esther Garber of Virginia, and Rachel Garber of Quebec, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Ethan. John was a friend to all, always ready to help anyone, and always ready to share a story. He will be deeply missed. A short memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho.
