Edwin "Ed" George Good 11/30/1928 ~ 10/23/2013 Edwin "Ed" George Good, age 84 of Filer, Idaho unexpectedly passed away at his home in Filer on October 23, 2013. Edwin was born November 30, 1928 in rural Miami County, Kansas to John Melvin and Hattie Rachael Good. As a young man, Ed served in the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the G.I. Bill to help pay his way through college at the University of Kansas. While in the Marine Corps and later at the University, Ed discovered his talent for table tennis, earning trophies as a singles and doubles champion. After graduating with a degree in Engineering Physics, Ed was quickly recruited by Westinghouse into the emerging field of nuclear engineering. Ed's professional career took him across many states, beginning in Pennsylvania, then to California, Idaho, Texas, back to Kansas City, and then finally returning to Idaho, where he spent his retirement. Ed married Anna Marie Straw on August 14, 1954 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. They were the proud parents of one son, David R. Good. Anna passed away after 53 happy years of marriage. Ed began regularly attending the Kimberly Church of the Nazarene, where he developed many strong friendships. He greatly enjoyed participating in church activities and had previously served as a Board Member for the church. This is where Ed met and then married Hazel McKay on April 4, 2009. Ed was a Jayhawker, an alumni and lifelong fan of the University of Kansas Basketball team. He also enjoyed gardening, studying politics and science, woodworking, tinkering, puttering and working as a handy man to remodel his home and also to help others. He enjoyed selling his tomato seedlings and his fruit and vegetable harvest at the Twin Falls Farmer's Market where he also made many friends. Surviving Ed is his loving wife, Hazel Good of Filer, Idaho; son, David R. Good of Tempe, Arizona, step-sons, Mike (Cheryl) Lapp of Pataskala, Ohio, and Don Lapp of Kimberly, Idaho; step-daughters Carolyn Deuel, Barbara Lapp and Glenda Thompson all of Twin Falls, Idaho; Lorrie (Torrey) Grubbs of Hailey, Idaho; Joan (Pete) Morey of Inkom, Idaho; Jan (Margaret Johnston) Brizee of Carlin, Nevada; one brother, Eldon (Elenora) Good of Ft. Myers, Florida; two sisters, Eloise (Warren, deceased) Teasley of Raytown, Missouri and Eleanor (Roy) McKaig of Paola, Kansas; also surviving are numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna, on January 29, 2008. Ed was a wonderful, loving husband, father, neighbor and friend. He will be missed every day by those who knew and loved him. Visitation for Ed will be held Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kimberly Church of the Nazarene, 3550 E 3750 N, Kimberly, Idaho with Pastor Mike Seward officiating. Interment will be held at the Twin Falls Cemetery, Twin Falls, Idaho immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kimberly Church of the Nazarene's Building Fund.
