Joseph M. Kalisek, 91, of Twin Falls, passed away August 15, 2013. He was born January 16, 1922 in Howells, Nebraska, the son of Joe and Matilda Kalisek. He attended schools in Howells and Buhl, Idaho. In 1939, his family moved to Buhl where Joe held many farming jobs before entering the service in 1942. Joe was a member of the 88th Infantry Division. He served as a cook for the Division in Italy from 1943 to 1945. Joe married Slava Stastny on April 13, 1947, they had four children. He farmed in Murtaugh until 1958. He then moved to Paul and homesteaded his own land. He and Slava built a home, and worked together developing their farm. Joe loved his land and continued farming with their son, Michael, until retiring in 2001. He loved his family and especially loved to tease his grandchildren, farming and growing roses. Joe was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the ZCBJ Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Slava, of Twin Falls, children - JoAnn Kalisek of Bloomington, MN, Michael (Linda) Kalisek of Paul, ID, Laurie (Matt) Engel of Hailey, ID, Connie (Peter) Jaeger of West Lafayette, IN, ten grandchildren - Betsy, Maria and Mark Thompson, Joey and Jeorgi Kalisek, Rebecca Lange, Amanda and Samantha Engel, Paul and Kathryn Jaeger, two great grand children - Olivia Lange and Susana Rossow, one sister - Magdeline Vose and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. A Vigil service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 161 6th Ave. East in Twin Falls. A Memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 161 6th Ave. East in Twin Falls. Arrangements are under the caring direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
