Virginia Becker, born in Painesville, Ohio on April 23rd, 1924 to George and Veta Marie Sobera, has gone to be with her savior on August 4th, 2013. She had three brothers, Richard, Bernard and John; and one sister, Genevieve, who all predeceased her. Virginia grew up in Selma, Alabama, married Ray Thornton in 1942 and gave birth to her daughter, Cheryl. She then moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and gave birth to her other two daughters, Diane and Suzanne. Diane passed away at four months. Virginia and Ray moved to Twin Falls in 1947, and Virginia worked for a construction company. She later divorced Ray and met Robert J. Becker, whom she married in 1950. They lived in Castleford and her two sons, Bob and Marty Becker, were born there. Virginia and Robert farmed in the Castleford area for the next 46 years until Robert's death in 1996. Their crops were always the envy of the community. In 1997, Virginia moved back to Twin Falls and built her little dream home. She always took great pride in her beautiful yard. Virginia was a volunteer at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital and then St. Luke's for 26 years and was known as the "joke lady". Her risqué jokes would even make the doctors blush! She loved the patients and the volunteers, and they loved her back. She always had a wicked sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. She was kind to everyone she met and had a special place in her heart for the underdog. Her generosity is well known. She also served as president of the Auxiliary for five terms, was volunteer of the year in 2011, and was active and awesome in fund raising for the hospital. Virginia loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply, and they loved her just as much. She was so proud of all of them. There wasn't a card or board game that she didn't love to play. Virginia was a lifelong avid reader, who in her prime could devour a book a day. She had an amazing vocabulary. She also had a special love for her dog, Sugar Babe, who brought her so much joy. It was hard for her to part with Sugar, but she found her a wonderful family, who faithfully brought Sugar to visit Virginia each week that she was in assisted living. Mother was so lucky to have so many loyal wonderful friends who visited and cared for her until her death. She never wanted to leave them, because they meant so much to her. Virginia is survived by her four children and their spouses: Cheryl and Ken Mindell, Coppell, Texas; Suzanne Lallis, El Mirage, Arizona; Bob and Lesa Becker, Meridian, Idaho; and Marty and Teresa Becker, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Her love, generosity, kindness and humor will be missed by all of her friends and family. At Virginia's request, there will be no funeral but instead a celebration of her life at the Twin Falls Reformed Church, 1631 Grandview Drive N, Twin Falls, Idaho on August 31st at 2 o'clock. Feel free to dress casually and come enjoy great stories, music, a slide show, mementos of Virginia's life, and hors d'oeuvres. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Twin Falls women's shelter, Valley House, The Mustard Seed or the Twin Falls Humane Society.
