Carl August Engelbrecht Carl August Engelbrecht, passed away June 26, 2013 at Bridgeview Estates, Twin Falls, ID. He was born January 19, 1915 in Thune, NE to German immigrant, Marie Mina (Reichenberg) and Charles Gus Engelbrecht. Carl graduated from Arthur High School (Arthur, NE) in 1932. He was raised in the Sand Hills of Nebraska on his father's homestead and worked as a cowboy during his teens and twenty's. He met Wanda June Easton of North Platte, NE through mutual friends at a Sand Hills neighborhood party and married her in 1939. With their three small children, Julia, Carl Jr. "Bud," and Linda in tow, Carl and Wanda left the ranch in 1945 and moved to Ogallala, NE so Julia could attend school. Eventually the family moved to Fort Collins, CO where Carl worked first as a farmer and later, as an auto mechanic in dealerships in the area. The family was joined by the births of two more children, Jerry and Debi. In 1966, Carl was recruited by Wayne Rodgers, the first Dean of Vocational Education at the newly formed College of Southern Idaho, to move to Idaho to become one of two auto mechanics instructors. Many summers were spent at Colorado State University and University of Idaho where Carl took classes in teaching professional technical education. He earned an Associate's Degree from the College of Southern Idaho in 1972. Carl taught at the college for the rest of his career and retired in 1980. Throughout the years, Carl was involved in community activities such as the Magichords Barbershop Singers, Magic Valley Rose Society, and as a rosarian at Twin Falls Cemetery. He assisted in the remodel of the first Senior Citizen's Center as well. He developed many friendships through the years and was a regular at the Wednesday morning coffee group of CSI retirees until ill health stopped his participation. Carl was also a lifelong and very active member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served as Elder and Pastor for thirty years in the Twin Falls branch. Carl was preceded in death by Wanda in 1999, a brother, Paul and sister, Carol Scheusler (Emil) and five grandchildren: Mike Watkins, Enrico Engelbrecht, Susanne Engelbrecht, Rodrigo Engelbrecht, and Bill Donnan.
