Floyd Lanner Jones

Floyd L Jones 1923 ~ 2013 Kimberly Floyd L. Jones, 90, of Kimberly, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his home. Floyd was born on January 11, 1923 in Rogers, Arkansas, to Earl and Leota Jones. Within a year he and his family moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he attended school and graduated. It was in Pocatello that he met and married the lady of his life, Doris Jane Palmer, in March of 1942. Floyd then began working as a steamfitter for Union Pacific railroad on the steam engines, joining a family tradition of railroad work. In January 1943, Floyd joined the United States Army. He spent nearly three years serving in the Pacific theater at locations such as Bora Bora, Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He returned from the war on Thanksgiving Day, 1945. After the war, Floyd worked several years for Northwest Propane where he began his career as a plumber/pipefitter. In 1950, he went to work at the Naval Ordinance Plant in Pocatello where he worked until the plant's closure in 1959. At that time Floyd, his wife, and their three children moved to Corinne, Utah where he worked for Thiokol Chemical Corporation during their years in production of the Minuteman Missile. Floyd concluded his working career in civil service spending eleven years at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. In 1981, Floyd and Doris moved to Twin Falls and later Kimberly. Floyd worked many years as the maintenance man for the United Methodist Church, the Valley Christian Church in Twin Falls, and the Kimberly Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of the Filer American Legion, the Twin Falls Masonic Lodge, and attended the Kimberly Second Ward of the LDS Church. Floyd's wife Doris passed away in 1996. He is survived by his children Florine Jones, Janette Day of Boise, and Ralph (Kay) Jones of Twin Falls. Floyd is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly Crystal, Derek (Kris) Schenck, Mark Abel, Michael Jones, Cassie (John) Chavez of Spirit Lake, Kristy Jones of Boise, and Brian (Nickell) Jones of Salt Lake City. Floyd also has nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Crystal Jr. At Floyd's request there will be no public service. A Celebration of his life will be held this summer at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery, 10100 N Horseshoe Bend Rd. Boise, Idaho, where he and Doris will be interred. Cremation is under the direction of the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Filer American Legion Post 47, Box 661, Filer, Idaho.
