Burton Phelps Huish, 80, of Twin Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, on the 59th wedding anniversary for he and his beloved wife Gloria. He was born July 9, 1932 in Tremonton, Utah, to Sterling and Fern Tingey. Burt graduated from Bear River High School in 1950. He was active in athletics, acapella choir, and was senior class president. Shortly after graduating from high school, he served in the Korean War in the Army National Guard. He married Gloria Stenquist on April 30, 1954 in the LDS Logan Temple. He & Gloria lived in Salt Lake City where he began his 12 year career with JC Penney's. In 1965 they moved to Twin Falls where began selling insurance for the next 35 years. Burt was an active volunteer in Magic Valley serving in the Lions Club, Red Cross, and Dilettantes. He was a member of the LDS church where he served in many leadership callings. He was an avid sports fan, BYU, LA Dodgers and Utah Jazz. He also loved to play golf and enjoyed his hobby with model railroad trains. Burt's greatest love was music. He began singing when he was 4 years old and sang his last song in February, just two months before his passing. He started the Barbershop quartet chorus in Twin Falls and later served as the International President of SPEBSQSA. As a hobby, he sang the National Anthem for colleges, major league baseball & MBA audiences around the country. He was emcee and sang for Miss Twin Falls pageants, sang for the city band concerts, & various events in Magic Valley. Burt is survived by his wife Gloria, children, Janette (Pack), Nancy (Schultz), and Kevin, 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and son in-law. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Stake Center, 2085 S. Temple in Twin Falls. A viewing will be held Sunday, May 5, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd, in Twin Falls and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will follow the services in Bear River City, Utah on Monday, May 5, 2013 at 4:00 P.M.
