On January 23, 2013, after fighting the good fight and running the race set before him, Jim "Honey" Hazelip gently and peacefully slipped into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and went home. Born to Guthrie and Gertrude in Island, Kentucky on August 28, 1941, the fourth of nine children, and the last to be born in Kentucky before the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. At seventeen years old Jim joined the Navy and served with an honorable discharge in 1961. The outdoors was always where Honey was the happiest, hunting, fishing, camping and later instilling this in his son Troy and grandchildren, Katelyn and Jordan. In 1972 he met the love of his life Murley and they were married in October of 1973. How God laughed seeing exact opposites "do life" together. After a medical retirement from driving trucks, Honey enjoyed retirement by having more time for his family, hunting, shooting, fishing and using his boat in the lakes and the ocean of Southern California. In December of 2005 Honey and Murley moved to Jerome, Idaho to live his dream of open skies, open fields, hunting and fishing. Until health challenges presented in October of 2010, he was able to thoroughly enjoy all Idaho offers. Blessed by a devoted family, dear friends, and a faithful family of Christ centered fellowship at Believer's Church in Jerome. Honey knew and appreciated God's favor in his life. Surviving are his wife of 40 forty years Murley of Jerome, his son - Troy, daughter in love - Coleen, granddaughter - Katelyn and grandson - Jordan, sister - Terry and brother Robin of Detroit, nieces and nephews, and five children by a previous marriage who will miss him dearly. Honey's family would like to thank the team at St. Luke's Jerome and St. Luke's Twin Falls for the excellent care given during his journey home. Dr. Timothy Enders, the team in ICU and the third floor demonstrated deep and sincere compassion above and beyond medical care. Their hearts were genuine and blessed us. The family requests memorials in Honey's memory to Believer's Church Youth Fund, PO Box 837 Jerome, ID 83338. A celebration of Honey's life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Believer's Church, 100 E. Ave. D., in Jerome. Those who wish may share memories and condolences at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com. Arrangements were under the caring direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
