Ronald LeRoy Scherupp 1923 - 2013 Ronald LeRoy Scherupp, 89, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, went to be with the Lord, January 1, 2013. He passed away at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ron, son of Anna Mary Augusta & Fred Lawrence Scherupp was born January 9, 1923 in Hansen, Idaho. He and his family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho before starting to school. He attended schools in Twin Falls from 1929-1941 and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1941. During his high school years, he worked at the Troy Laundry & Drycleaning Co., helped contractors with masonry work and also worked for a short time in an arsenal plant in Hawthorne, NV. He was drafted into the Army, January 23, 1943 and went for basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was in A.S.T.P. Engineering at Boston University for special college courses before being shipped overseas to the European Theatre. His military occupational specialty was Scout Car Driver in the 43rd Cavalry Recon. Squad. He fought battles in Northern France, Rhineland & Central Europe and served with his unit in the countries of Austria, Belgium, Scotland, England, France, Germany & Luxembourg. He earned decorations and citations including the American Theatre Campaign Medal, the EAE medal with 5 bronze stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. He earned the Purple Heart, November 1944 while fighting an intense Battle of the Rhine. Shortly after the surrender of Germany and before the Japanese surrender, he was sent home on a 30 day furlough from the European Theatre. While visiting on that furlough, he married his fiancée, Doris Poe. They were married July 21, 1945 at the First Christian Church in Twin Falls. A little over three months after his marriage, he was honorably discharged November 4, 1945. Ron's first civilian post war job was working at the cement block factory in Twin Falls from 1945-1946. He then went to work at Standard stations from 1946-1952. In 1952, the opportunity to lease his own Sinclair Station arose and he held that position from 1952-1957. From 1957-1966, he worked for Mountain States Implement Co. in Twin Falls as an implement salesman, and in 1966 took a job with McVeys of Twin Falls as a farm machinery salesman. He was there until 1976, when he moved to Wolvertons of Twin Falls, and worked as a farm machinery salesman until his retirement from there in July, 1986. Ron was a very devoted family man who loved his wife and children and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His faith, home and family were very important in his life. His warm heart and awesome sense of humor made him the perfect husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed people very much. He was never one to be critical of others and always put others first which made him a great friend. Ron was a life member of the D.A.V.; a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose of which he was very active. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with the kids. In his retirement, he found gardening, working on his lawn and flower beds and traveling were his new interests. He also enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, Big Band Music and loved to dance. Ron was a rare and wonderful man and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Doris Scherupp of Twin Falls, ID;one sister, Berniece Crippen of Twin Falls, ID; daughter, Linda (Mike) O'Connor of Puyallup, WA; son, Kent (Kendi) Scherupp of Twin Falls, ID; two grandsons, Darrin (Mary) Hatcher of Puyallup, WA, and Mark Hatcher of Eugene, OR; one granddaughter, Krysta (Paul) Melni and six great grandsons, Caleb & Luke Hatcher of Puyallup, WA; Julian Hatcher of Iowa; Addison & Andrew Hatcher of Florida & Brayden Scherupp of Twin Falls, and three great granddaughters, Robyn Hatcher of Eugene, OR; and Sarah & Rebecca Hatcher of Puyallup, WA. His parents, seven sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Visitation for Ron will be held Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Heath officiating. Interment will be held following services at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Ron's memory be made to the Lighthouse Christian School Gymnasium and Classroom Building Project, 960 Eastland Drive Twin Falls, ID 83301. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jared Helms, the staff of Hospice Visions Home Health, Visions Home Care and Visions Hospice Care as well as his individual caregivers for their diligence, compassion and kindness to Ron and our family during his illness.
