Ernest Elwood Place, 88, of Twin Falls, passed away September 16, 2012 at his home in Twin Falls. He was born on June 4, 1924 in Gillett, Arkansas, the 6th child of James Gilbert and Leona Mable Carroll Place. His mother passed away at an early age and he was raised by his father's sister Rachel and her husband Elmer Nichols. This blessed Ernie with a large extended family. He served his county during WWII and the Korean Conflict in the US Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, Ernie worked for nine years at Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria, Illinois and then for 27 years as a chief chemist for Amalgamated Sugar in Twin Falls. He retired from Amalgamated Sugar in 1992. On July 11, 1961 he married the love of his life Joan Marie Staples. Together they shared 40 years until her passing in 2001. Ernie was very civic minded, he was a member of the Twin Falls Monarch Lions Club, Twin Falls Rotary club and a proud member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. He volunteered doing taxes for the elderly, and delivering meals on wheels. Surviving are his daughters - Christine Ann Robertson and Catherine Marie Place both of Boise, son -Kevin Thomas Place of Twin Falls, grandchildren - Lisa Lima, Lauren Williams, Caitlin Robertson, Zane Robertson, and Marshal Mensinger all of Boise, Loni Robertson of Seattle, WA, Marde Jo Mensinger of Moscow, Idaho, step grandchildren - Jenna and Amber Noeldner, along with 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife - Joan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Ernie's life will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Episcopal Church Of The Ascension, 371 Eastland Drive North, Twin Falls. Inurnment will follow at the Episcopal Church Of The Ascension Columbarium. Arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
