Elizabeth J. Prewitt

September 15, 1924 — June 18, 2012

ELIZABETH (BETTY) JEAN PREWITT September 15, 1924 - June 18, 2012 Elizabeth Jean Prewitt, 87, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Monday evening, June 18, 2012 at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease and related complications. In the end, it was pneumonia that released her from her exhaustive struggle and allowed her to receive the blessings of Heaven that she so richly deserves. Betty was born September 15, 1924, the first of six children born to Arthur Edward and Ruth Tuggy Harris, in Riverside, Calif. She grew up in Riverside and graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1942. She met her life partner and best friend at the First United Presbyterian Church in Riverside, and she and Ora George Prewitt were married there on August 3, 1945, when George returned from serving his country in WWII. Betty and George were blessed with two children, a daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Seigworth Schroeder, and a son, George Thomas (Tom) Prewitt. Betty was a homemaker, and while her children were growing up she was very involved in Victoria United Presbyterian Church in Riverside. She sang in the church choir for many years, led the Junior Choir for several years, served as church secretary for a few years, and worked on many committees and in many capacities. She loved music, especially the old hymns. In 1972 Betty and George realized their dream of living in the mountains and moved to Rimforest in the San Bernardino mountains. Betty loved the beauty of the mountains and enjoyed gardening, reading, cross-word puzzles, and involvement along with George in the Arrowhead Fish and Game Gun Club where they made many life-long friends. In 1990 Betty and George moved to Twin Falls, ID to be closer to their daughter. They enjoyed camping and exploring Idaho, and spent many winters volunteering at the Salton Sea State Park in southern CA, where they also enjoyed many wonderful friends. In her later years, Betty's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Each one was very special and precious to her. Betty was a beautiful and unselfish person who handled her debilitating illness with strength and grace and never complained. She was deeply loved by her family, and will be sadly missed, but she will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Betty is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 67 years, George Prewitt, her daughter Peggy (Mike) Schroeder of Twin Falls, ID, and her son Tom (Geri) Prewitt of Riverside, CA. Her grandchildren are: Scott (Robyn) Seigworth and Matt Seigworth of Twin Falls, ID, and Raleigh (Amy) Prewitt, Michael (Rebekah) Prewitt, and Mackenzie Prewitt of Riverside, CA. Her great-grandchildren are: Bayley Seigworth, Ali Moore, and Kylar Moore of Twin Falls, and triplets Michael, Haleigh, and Rhiannon Prewitt of Riverside, CA. She is also survived by one sister, Rachel Carnahan of Sublimity, OR, and two brothers, Ernie (Phyllis) Harris of La Mesa, Calif., and Roy (Jimmie) Harris of Hendersonville, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy, and sister and brother-in-law Jerry and Dale Stewart of Hemet, CA. A Memorial service for Betty will be held at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012.
