Doris Jodene Sorenson

March 11, 1925 — March 24, 2012

Doris J. Sorenson, age 87 passed away March 25, 2012. Doris was born in Lyons, Kansas on March 11, 1925. Doris was the youngest of 7 daughters (Emmie, Alice, Frances, Faye, Dorothy and Ruth) to George and Marion Perkins. At the age of 7, Doris and her family moved to Kimberly, ID, where Doris went to school. At the age of 16 Doris married Wendell Eller and were later divorced. To this union 5 children were born: Wendell "Bing" Eller, Marion Edgar, Roxanne Eller, Dale Sorenson, Gerald "Jerry" Sorenson. On April 12, 1955 Doris married the love of her life, Stanley J. Sorenson. This is when her life of happiness truly began. While maintaining a home, caring for her mother and raising her children, Doris worked at Trollinger Drug, later known as Crowleys, and then at the Holiday Inn until retirement. Doris' true passion was her family. Doris and Stan spent many summers fishing and camping at Magic Reservoir. When fish weren't biting there were many battles of Gin Rummy and Casino. Holidays, caring and cooking for her family were special times for Doris. 4th of July was a picnic in her front yard with family coming from everywhere. There was always "pressed" chicken, Grandma's potato salad and vegetables from her garden. Thanksgiving brought football, turkey and Doris' cranberry salad. Christmas brought every family member to Doris' living room. Cinnamon rolls were made for everyone. Lots of homemade chocolate chip cookies, gingersnaps, candy and the special "Old English Fruit Cake" were set out. Doris made sure every family member up to the last great grandchild, had one of the "family" stockings. There were also many of her crocheted items as special gifts. Doris loved when family got together and reminisced about the occasions of the past and was always smiling, sometimes in disbelief at the stories of her children that she hadn't heard before. Every family member was equally important to Doris and each felt a love that will never be duplicated. Doris had a way of making every family member feel that they were her "favorite". Over the last 12 years Doris developed a unique and special bond with her great granddaughter, Kennedy. Kennedy spent a part of most days at Doris' house and there were very few nights that they didn't call each other to say goodnight and "I Love You". Doris and Kennedy filled a void in each others lives when they both needed it the most. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marion Perkins, 5 sisters (Emmie, Faye, Frances, Ruth, Alice), her loving husband of 54 years, Stanley J. Sorenson, and a daughter, Roxanne Eller. Doris is survived by a sister, Dorothy, her children: Bing (Mary) Eller, Marion (Mark) Edgar, Dale (Laurie) Sorenson, Jerry (Gail) Sorenson. grandchildren: Rondi (Pete) Woodruff, Stacey (Frank) Anderson, Stan (Lacey) Sorenson, Monte (Nicole) Edgar, Jai (Suzanne) Eller, Tatijana (Wolfgang) Schuler, Bill Sorenson, Colby (Terri) Sorenson. great grandchildren: Justine, Grant, Lacey, Megan, Andrew, Anthony, Andrew, Cody, Celine, Kenndy, Easton and Hope. Doris is also survived by her four legged companion Taffy. Special thanks to Lucille Still for being a great neighbor and friend. Doris will be missed for all the canned foods she supplied for her family, the worlds best cookies, her amazing cooking and all the family gatherings. But more than anything she will be missed for being the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that a family could ever ask for.
