Donald Dean was born to John Dean and Helen McCarty Dean on February 27, 1924 in Twin Falls, Id. He passed away on February 27, 2012 in Kimberly, Id. He was raised on the family farm south of Twin Falls, and attended grade school at both Pleasant Valley and Shamrock. He attended Twin Falls High School and graduated in 1942. After graduation Don tried to enlist in the army but was unable to due to a hernia. He then went to work for his grandfather, Ed McCarty of McCarty Gravel Company in Kimberly. He worked there until 1944 when he and his brother Tom were called to go into the service. Don joined the Army and Tom the Navy. He served in the 175rh infantry of the 29ft Regiment. He was at the battles of Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. They were both discharged from the service in 1946. Don returned home and went back to work at McCarty gravel company. In 1947 he attended a dance at Radio Rondevoo and met the love of his life Jeanne Miller. He gave her a ride home and from that time on they were always together. They were married in December 1947 and were blessed with 61 years. Don and his cousin bought McCarty Gravel Company from their grandfather, Ed McCarty and operated the company until 1976 when they sold the company. Don then went to work for Colonial Concrete until his retirement in 1986. After retirement he and Jeanne began to travel and get involved in local history. They were original members of the friends of Stricker Ranch, were involved with the Idaho Historical Society and donated many hours to the Twin Falls County Museum at Curry. Don knew many of the pioneer families and was known as a local historian. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Jeanne Miller Dean, son Darrell, father John Dean, mother Helen McCarty Dean, brothers Tom Dean, Bill Dean and Dick Dean all of the Magic Valley. He is survived by his son Dennis Dean of Meridian, Id. Daughter Janice (Edward) Easterling of Kimberly, Id. Sisters Ella (Claude) Bryant of Burley, Rosemary Abner of Burley, Norma Lee Ridley Filer, Grace (Bob) Johnson of Twin Falls, Id. Brother Ted (Sandra) Dean of Hazelton, Id. Grandson's Allen (Teresa) Easterling of Twin Falls, Marty Easterling of Kimberly, Id. Great Granddaughter Alesa Easterling of Twin Falls, Great Grandson's Gabe Easterling, Mike Easterling of Twin Falls, Id. He is also survived by to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews to name.
