Gladys Norine Meservy

March 20, 1910 — February 18, 2012

Norine Meservy, of Twin Falls, 101, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 18, 2012. She was born March 20, 1910 to John and Alma Matson of Mt. Vernon, Washington. When she was 6 months old, she moved to Besslen , a tiny community east of Dietrich, Idaho. At six years old, she moved to Dietrich where her father operated a blacksmith shop. She graduated from Dietrich High School. Norine married Horace C. Meservy on July 3, 1928 in Gooding, Idaho. Together they had two children, James L. Meservy and Elaine (Meservy) Bateman. Horace and Norine raised their family on their farm in Dietrich where Norine loved to garden and tend to her flowers. She loved her handiwork and made afghans. They also belonged to the Guernsey Club as Guernsey cows were integral to their farming operation. As club members, they participated in potluck dinners which they enjoyed tremendously. We remember mom/grandmother as an excellent cook, always cooking for threshing crews, friends, neighbors and family. Her pheasant dinners in the fall were legendary. The cookie jar was always full for the grandchildren. Family time was spent picnicking and fishing which included all the grandchildren. They thoroughly enjoyed watching their children and grandchildren play basketball. In their later years, they bought a trailer and enjoyed travelling with friends. After retiring they moved to Jerome, where they lived for a few years. After her husband's death in 1975, she moved to Twin Falls. The highlight of her later years was her 100th birthday spent with family and friends. Norine is survived by her daughter Elaine (Dick) Bateman of Twin Falls. Grandchildren - Jim (Cherie) Meservy of Jerome; Ken (Elsa) Meservy of Lake Elsinore, CA; Kevin (Christi) Meservy of Nampa, ID; Debbie (Pat) Tolman of Kennewick, WA: Lori (Bruce) Zimmerman of Pendleton, OR; Doug (Anne) Bateman of Lehi, UT. Nineteen great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. Norine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Horace, and her son James L. Meservy.
