Jenive M. Dougherty

January 31, 1927 — February 11, 2012

TWIN FALLS -- Jenive (Jenny) May Dougherty, 85, passed away Saturday, February 11 at her home in Twin Falls. Jenny, the youngest of four children, was born on Jan. 31, 1927 in Honeyville, Utah to Jerry Crowley and Jenny Hunsaker Crowley. Soon after, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where she grew up. In 1945 she graduated from Twin Falls High School where she was voted first Sweetheart of what was to become the annual Sweetheart Ball. In seventh grade nature studies class Jenny sat next to Al Dougherty. They liked each other right away and were married Dec. 15, 1946 when they were both 19 because Al was "the best person I ever met," Jenny said. In 2011 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. The two had three children, Janet, Paul, and Carol and shared their love of family, music, faith, and fun with them on the family farm on Washington Street North. In the late 1950s Jenny went to work at the local cattle auction every Wednesday to help support her family. She studied hard to become a Registered Representative of the New York Stock Exchange and announced the daily stock report on the radio for many years. Later, Jenny became the clerk-treasurer of the Twin Falls School District until she retired at age 65. Throughout her life Jenny was active in the Twin Falls United Methodist Church, singing in the choir, leading youth group and teaching Sunday school. She and Al were also members of the Twin Falls Dilettantes Jenny loved water and snow skiing, camping, art, playing bridge, growing plants, knitting, bird watching and cooking. Al and Jenny began travelling to Quartzsite, Ariz. in 1995 where they made many friends and enjoyed the warm, dry winters. She and Al were also able to travel to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Jenny will be remembered by her friends and family for never holding a grudge, always being there in a pinch and for her frequent, enthusiastic laughter. She left this life on February 11, 2012 and will always be thought of with love and joy by her family including Al, Janet (Richard) Dougherty- Smith, Paul (Patricia) Dougherty, Carol (Robert) Olsen, her grandchildren, Alison and Hart Smith, Aaron, Brian, and Beth Dougherty, Jason, Brett, Lance, Christopher, Lisa, Jenny, and Alex Olsen, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and her many friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd, Twin Falls.
