George Elmer Jakway 1931 - 2011 George Elmer Jakway, 80, of Twin Falls, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 18, 2011. He was born on July 3, 1931 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Dale C. and Edna Carter Jakway. His parents owned a dairy business in Twin Falls and American Falls. He came from hardworking parents, his father farmed and his mother sorted apples in addition to their dairy business. His mother was also a long time member of the Magic Valley Gem society. He attended school in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1949. George then went on to attend Idaho State University graduating with a B.A. Degree in 1953. In 1953, he made the decision to serve his Country in the United States Naval Reserve and was on active duty from 1953 - Aug., 1955. He served as a Hospital Corpsman, at the Corp. School in Portsmouth, VA in 1954. He then received his duty assignment at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Upon his honorable discharge, he went on to attend the University of Kansas from 1955 - 1957, where he gained a MS in Zoology. George was intent on more studies and from 1957 to 1961 gained a PhD, from Nebraska, in Zoology and Anatomy Minor in Geology with research in Vertebrate Paleontology. George took his first Teaching position at California State University, Dept. of Biology as the Associate Professor of Zoology and worked there from 1961-1991. In 1975, he took on an additional position as a research associate in Vertebrae Paleontology with Idaho State Museum of Natural History in Pocatello, and served from 1975-1991. On April 1, 1956 he married Jaqueline Sinks, they were later divorced in 1968. In October of 2008, George moved back to Twin Falls, Idaho. Surviving George is his longtime friend, Amado Mario Gauna and his beloved dog, Amber Doggy. Funeral Services for George will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, ID. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be held following services at Twin Falls Cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho.
