Alberta (Zagovec) Popovic April 16, 1938-April 7, 2011 Twin Falls- Alberta (Zagovec) Popovic, 72, passed away at her home in Twin Falls on April 7, 2011. Born April 16, 1938 in Former Yugoslavia to Franjo and Fanika Zagovec. She married Sreten Popovic in 1958. They had two children, Rade and Aleksandra. Sreten passed away in 1987 after a battle with cancer. Alberta graduated from medical school and worked in a hospital for ten years. Then she worked at the University of Sarajevo in the Histology department in a lab as an educational aid. She retired in the late 1980's. During the war in Former Yugoslavia, Alberta escaped from Sarajevo with her daughter and lived for a short time in Serbia. ln 1996, she moved to Greece to live with her daughter. Her grandson, Theo, was born in Greece and she was so very proud and happy to have her grandson. She helped to raise Theo for the past 14 years. ln 2000, Alberta, Aleksandra and Theo moved to Twin Falls, ldaho, USA. They were reunited with Rade and family in Twin Falls. She studied hard and practiced English all the time. Alberta was very proud of becoming a U.S. citizen after living in Twin Falls for five years. She battled cancer for three years and always believed that she would gain her health back and overcome the battle. Alberta was someone who had strong faith and believed in God. Her strength and faith kept her going. Her love for her grandson, Theo, motivated her to keep fighting cancer. She loved him the most. Alberta enjoyed working outside in the yard and garden. Many days, you could drive by their house and see Alberta outside taking care of her rose bushes and flowers. She enjoyed their family pets and loved animals . Surviving Alberta is her sister, Franciska in Former Yugoslavia, Son, Rade Popovic and wife Dusanka; Daughter, Aleksandra Popovic and grandson, Theo Chrisaitis, all of Twin Falls, ID; Popovic family in Serbia; Pintiaux family in France; Chrisaitis family in Greece; Renjic family in Bosnia; Pavlovic family in Twin Falls, Idaho and many friends and family in Former Yugoslavia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Sreten, sister, Helena, and her brother, Victor. The graveside service will be held at Twin Falls Cemetery on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. with a Reception to be held from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Magic Valley Church of Christ 2002 Filer Ave. East (on the corner of Filer Ave and Sunrise Blvd) Twin Falls, Idaho.
