Ted N. Cheney, an Idaho native with a passion for travel and adventure; a respected and resourceful outdoorsman that never met a stranger and always had a great story to tell; passed away peacefully March 18, 2011 at his home in Twin Falls after a battle with cancer. Ted was born September 3rd, 1930 in Twin Falls, the son of Emma and Claude Cheney. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1948 and married Dorothy Chandler on September 16, 1950, in Buhl, Idaho. Ted was a manager for the M. H. King Company from 1945 to 1964. Known as an entrepreneur, he owned three stores in Washington and Idaho from 1964 to 1967. He joined Sherwin Williams in 1967 and retired from there in 1987 in order to finish building the family cabin north of Fairfield, ID. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Gayle Boyd and Diana Miles. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, Twin Falls; daughter Janet Cheney-Cavallier, son-in-law Dave Cavallier, and grand-daughter Danielle L'Abbe, Arvada, CO; sister Margaret Anderson, Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Norma Chandler, Buhl; son-in-law Tom Miles, Poulsboro, WA; and grandchildren Jim Miles, Sara Miles, Andy Boyd, and Matthew Shorthouse, Boise; Jill Hollon, Twin Falls; and Lindsey Shorthouse, Breckenridge, CO. Ted was a member of Eagle Rock Lodge #19 of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Idaho. As such, he has asked that in lieu of flowers or memorials, please donate to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, in Salt Lake City. A memorial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 24th at Park's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls.
