Delila Leone Malcolm Young 1933 - 2011 Delila Leone Malcolm Young, 77, of Salmon passed away February 20, 2011 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by members of her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 9, 1933 in Salmon, Idaho, the daughter of Charles Henry Malcolm and Bessie Lavern Lish Malcolm, and was the second of four daughters. She attended school in Carmen, Salmon and in California when her father was in the military, and graduated from Salmon High School in 1953. On July 15, 1953, she married the love of her life, Rulon "Dick" Young, at the Methodist Church in Salmon. To this union were born two children. Delila was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her children, grandchildren and husband, Dick her whole life through. She worked alongside Dick building the family home they resided in their whole life. She also enjoyed being close to her parents who lived just one house away. Daily she would walk the ditch bank to spend time with her parents until her father's death in 1983. She and Dick lived most of their lives in Salmon, spending only a few short years away in Georgia during Dick's military stay, and then later for a short time in Challis and Mtn. Home, following Dick's working career. She enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, and cutting meat that the family raised and harvested. Family was most important to her; she assisted in helping her nieces and nephews with their studies and in caring for some of her grandchildren until their graduation. Her and her daughter Ty also enjoyed doing ceramics together and ran an in-home ceramic shop for many years. Delila also sold Avon for many years, worked a short time as a waitress at her sister's café, assisted with the cutting and wrapping of meat for Scoop Aldus during peak seasons, and was a dedicated member of the Election board for over 40 years. She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, bowling and family travels. Delila was the hub of information for her family, often relaying important news and events to other family and friends when she felt it was important. She also had an extensive love of animals. Surviving are her husband Rulon "Dick" Young, son Rulon Richard "Junior" Young and his wife Kathy, daughter Delila "Ty" Garechana and her husband Ben all of Salmon, grandchildren Kristina Young of Salmon, Paula and her husband Eric Zunno of Cannon Air force Base, New Mexico , Marisa Ty Garechana and Ciera Delila Garechana of Salmon, sisters Bessie "Bumpy" Hathhorn and Wilma Williams of Salmon along with a host of nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog "Sweetie." She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Bessie Malcolm, and one sister Jean Parke. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
