LUCILLE NELLIE SAVAGE

December 1, 1918 — December 31, 2010

Lucille N. Savage 1918 - 2010 Many of the milestones of Lucy Hamby Savage's 92 years fell in December. On the last day of December, 2010, she died at Oak Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Kimberly, Idaho where she had been a patient for more than nine years. Formerly, she was a longtime resident of the Gooding area. Born Lucille Nellie Hamby on December 1, 1918, near Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina; she was the second of seven children of Joseph Gamewell and Nellie Maude Powell Hamby. Their family moved to Pleasant Valley south of Kimberly, Twin Falls County in December, 1925. On December 16, 1938, in Burley, Idaho she was married to Henry Lewis Savage. They farmed near Gooding until Lewis' death in 1962. They were the parents of one son, Henry Lee Savage who died it Puyallup, Washington in September, 2008. Lucy was a faithful and active member of the Gooding Church of the Nazarene. She retired in 1983 after some 26 years as housemother at the Idaho school for the Deaf and the Blind in Gooding, Idaho. Besides a boundless faith, she is remembered for a rare sympathy and compassion, skill at Crewell embroidery, delight in holiday decorating and remembrance of family anniversaries. Her nieces and nephews have colorful memories of summer visits with the Savages. Lucy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Savage; grandchildren, Aaron Savage and Brenda Savage Schuman and their spouses, Janelle and Ted, and the two great-grandchildren, Roman and Ragan Savage all of Puyallup, Washington. Also surviving is her brother Ray P. Hamby of Kimberly, Idaho; a sister Lena Schmechel of Twin Falls, Idaho and a special niece, Nancy Savage. For almost every single day of the near decade that Lucy required nursing care, Ray and his wife Dorothy stopped by to look in on her in the evening, or another relative did. Her family is deeply grateful for the kind care Lucy received from the nursing home staff over the years.
