Juanita Upton 1927 - 2010 Juanita Upton, age 83, passed away on October 30, 2010. Juanita was born March 1, 1927 in Fairbury, Nebraska. She was the fifth child of Roy O. and Anna Augusta Stocker. She attended school in Fairbury and graduated from both Fairbury High School in 1945 and Fairbury Junior College. As a result of her long time involvement in Girl Scouting, she then attended George Williams College in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1951. Juanita married Charles Upton from Oakland, California the same year. They moved to California where their two daughters, Barbara and Carol and one son, Steven were born. She joined the Presbyterian Church in 1954 and had served as an elder and a deacon in the church. Juanita was the church secretary for the First Presbyterian Church of Twin Falls. She was very active in the Pricilla circle, the Presbyterian Women's group, the choir and the bell choir. Juanita also worked as a secretary at the Twin Falls YM/YWCA and spent a number of years working as a framer at Larson Arts in downtown Twin Falls. Juanita always loved music. She played the baritone horn in high school and also more recently in the Twin Falls Community Band. She spent a number of years singing with the Sweet Adeline choir. Juanita volunteered regularly at the Twin Falls Visitor's Center and was a reading aide at Oregon Trail Elementary School. She was also active in the University of Idaho Extension Club Merry Marrieds, P.E.O., and was a Lifetime Member of the Girl Scouts of America. She also loved to bake cookies, coffee cakes, breads, caramel corn, Chex mix and her card ministry brought joy to those she knew on their birthdays and anniversaries. Juanita wrote numerous poems, lyrics and stories, some humorous and some of a more serious nature. A lover of animals, she had quite a few over the years: cats, dog, mice, fish, guinea pigs and even a rat. Juanita is survived by husband Charles, children Barbara (Bruce) Turner, Carol (Alan) Johnson, and Steven (Linda) Upton and her four grandchildren: Zachary Turner, Nicholas Turner, Heather (Brad) Herauf, Gretchen (Allen) Anselmo and two step-grandchildren: Hannah (Cory) Albertson and Mark Golay, her brother, James Warren Stocker, her nieces, Ann Wilbur and Jane Realon, and her cousin Suzanne Huber. She was preceded in death by her parents and three of her siblings. ln lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Girl Scouts of America Silver Sage Council or the First Presbyterian Church of Twin Falls. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 209 5th Ave N., Twin Falls.
