Stanley Jack Sorenson

April 29, 1924 — January 27, 2010

Today we honor the passing of Stanley J. Sorenson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and WWII veteran. Stan was born April 29h, 1924 in McGill Nevada to Jack and Margaret Sorenson, he became a lifelong resident of the Magic Valley at 6 months of age. Stan was the oldest of 6 children. At the age of 12 he lost his father and had to grow up quickly. Upon graduation he joined the Marine Corp and was part of the Marine's only paratroop battalion. He participated in operations against the enemy on Bougainville, B.S.I., Nov. 23, 1943 to Jan. 12th, 1944; Iwo Jima, V.I. Feb 19th, 1945 to March 27th 1945; and occupation of Saseho, Kyusha Japan Jan. 23 1945 to Oct. 27th 1945. He married the love of his life, Doris Eller, April 12th, 1955. Together they raised 4 children Bing (Mary) Eller, Marion (Mark) Edgar, Dale (Laurie) Sorenson, Jerry (Gail) Sorenson. They spent the last 55 years fishing, playing Gin Rumy and being an inspiration to the family. Family was very important to Stan and he took an active role in each of his children's and grandchildren's lives. Stan was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and worked a multitude of jobs until his retirement from Peter Kewitts in 1986. During his retirement he stayed busy with his participation in the Marine Corp League, the VFW, American Legion and the Twin Falls Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Stan was dedicated to all that served their country and worked hard to make sure each was honored properly. He was voted "Marine of the Year" by the Marine Corp League, an honor that he was extremely proud of. Stan was preceded in death by his mother and father, step-father, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Doris Sorenson, children, Bing (Mary) Eller, Marion (Mark) Edgar, Dale (Laurie)Sorenson, Jerry (Gail) Sorenson, Aaron (Kelli) Sorenson, 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Robert L. Sorenson. He was an inspiration and a hero to each and every member of his family and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services for Stan will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Interment with Military Rites will be held following the services at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. AC Emery, his nurses Linda and Kim and to all of the nurses at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital for the incredible care that he received until his passing. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to any of the following; the Marine Corp League, VFW, American Legion of the Twin Falls Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
