Mildred J. Smith of Twin Falls passed away October 6, 2008 at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation. She was 102 years old. Ms. Mildred J. Smith was born September 16, 1906 in Howard, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Frank J. and Ellen Lyons Smith. Mildred's family moved to Twin Falls in 1921. She graduated from Twin Falls High School and from the University of California, Berkley. Mildred worked for the US Department of Labor, Child Services in Washington D.C. from 1937 to 1940. She moved to San Francisco where she worked at the office of the U.S. Mint. In 1953 Mildred moved to Twin Falls to live with and care for her parents. While living in Twin Falls she worked for the Selective Service System Board, the Soil Conservation agency, office secretary for the Agriculture Loan Agency and office worker for the Department of Agriculture Farmers Home Administration. She moved back to San Francisco in 1960 and returned to work in the U.S. Mint. Mildred returned to Twin Falls in 1989 to care for her older sister. While living in San Francisco, Mildred enjoyed her passion for classical music as a season ticket holder for the San Francisco symphony and opera concerts. She was a life long Democrat and enjoyed talking about politics and current events. She and her friends loved to travel and enjoyed Europe, Alaska and much of the Eastern Seaboard. Mildred also enjoyed an occasional trip to the horse races or the casinos in Reno. Mildred was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and a lifelong practicing Catholic. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marjorie M. Smith; a brother, R. Lyons Smith and his wife Ionemarie Minger Smith. She is survived by her nieces, Janemarie (Robert) Prestel of West Friendship, MD and Jacqueline A. Smith of Monroe, WA; five great nieces/nephews and fifteen great-grand nieces/nephews all of Maryland. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 9 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls followed by burial in the Twin Falls Cemetery with Father Ron Wekerle officiating.
