Annie E. Carter Hooper-Twin Falls Anna "Annie" Elizabeth Carter Hooper, 95, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Wynwood in Twin Falls, ID., where she resided since November 2006. She was born June 13, 1913 in Twin Falls, ID to George Sitcher Carter and Nellie Catherine Hanson on their farm which is now 2005 Eldridge Avenue. Her parents came to Twin Falls in March of 1913 from Osage City, Kansas. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in the Class of 1931. After a year of post graduate work at the high school, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Sweet's Furniture in Twin Falls. In March 1937 she married Wallace O. Larson, also a member of the Class of 1931. They divorced in 1946. From 1938 to 1947, Annie lived in Rio Tinto, near Mountain City, NV, where she worked in the post office as the postmistress until 1947 when the mining camp closed after World War II had ended. She married William H. Hooper in September of 1947 in Elko, NV. He was a native of Cresco, IA. They moved to the Tri-cities area of Washington. . They lived in Kennewick, WA from 1949 to 1984. In 1948, Annie resumed employment with U.S. Postal Department in Camp Hanford, WA which became a part of the Tri-cities mail center for Richland, Kennewick and Pasco. After 37 years with the U.S. Postal Service, she retired in 1983. While in Washington, she became involved with the Old Time Fiddlers through Archie Turner of Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. Until the Hooper's moved to Boise in December of 1984, she was active with the Old Time Fiddlers of Washington. In November 1986 her husband, William Hooper, died in Boise. While in Boise, until 1991, she was a member and served as treasurer of Idaho Old Time Fiddlers, District 6. In 1996 she moved to Twin Falls. In addition to her active participation with the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers, she regularly played with Archie Turner's Dance groups on weekends in Buhl and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Twin Falls. She survived her parents, her sister, Edna H. Carter Jakway; her brother, David F. Carter; she had no children. She is survived by her nephew, George E. Jakway, of Los Angeles, CA and her sister-in-law, Bernadine Mulder Carter, widow of David F. Carter. Over the past several years, Mary Plackett Williams, Wayne Bues and Mario Gauna have provided special care and management for Annie's special needs. In addition to her avid interest in fiddlin', Annie was also a devotee of natural history and contributed to the Idaho Museum of Natural History on the campus of Idaho State University, Pocatello. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Idaho Museum of Natural History, Pocatello, ID. Visitation will be held 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008 and funeral services being held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, ID. Internment will follow in the Twin Falls Cemetery.
