Andrew Herbert Holderreed

December 21, 1914 — July 15, 2008

Rev. Andrew Herbert Holderreed Andrew Herbert Holderreed, 93, of Castleford, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He was born in Cushing, Oklahoma to Louis and Margret (Maggie) Holderreed on December 21, 1914. The following year the family moved to Teaken Hill in Northern Idaho. Andy graduated from high school in 1932, in Oakville, Wash., and in 1939 graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, having completed two majors. That same year he entered Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, where he met and married Louise Virginia Garber, daughter of Odes and Stella Garber of Broadway, VA, in 1941. After serving as missionaries in China and India for more than 20 years, in May of 1967, Andy and Louise returned to the "States" and accepted a call to serve the Larchmont Church of the Brethren in Tacoma, WA. They served that church for 15 years, while Andy also served 12 years as a Volunteer Police Chaplain for the City of Tacoma. During this time he also served as a negotiator for a Teen Run-Away Program and worked with the Fish Food Bank System. Andy and Louise retired to Castleford in 1982, to be near his sister Emma Wells and her family. He filled interim pastorates at the Filer Baptist Church, the Weiser Baptist Church, and the Church of the Brethren in Twin Falls. He also became active with the Castleford Men's Club that became a passion for him and Louise. Many jars of Andy's horseradish and many of Louise's quilts brought in top dollar to support college scholarships for Castleford High School graduates. Andy also loved to propagate fruit trees and taught grafting to anyone who would hold still long enough for a lesson. Many people in the community have fruit trees that he created. His wife of 67 years, Louise, survives along with son Bruce (Rena) Holderreed of Filer, and daughters Mary (Francis) Early of Elida, OH and Margie (Ken) Ullom of Wiley, CO. Also surviving are grandchildren John Woods of Boise; Faron Woods of Boise; Kathy (Mark) Bausman of Twin Falls; Rose (Vayle) Mauldin of Twin Falls; Rick Early of North Richland Hills, TX; Missy (Chris) Torgeson of West Palm Beach, FL; Andy (LeAnna) Ullom of McPherson, KS; Margret (Jason) Schutz of Pandora, OH; Becky Ullom of Elgin, IL; Russell Early of Elida, OH; and Robert Ullom of Wichita, KS. Great grandchildren include Josh Grimes; Ashley, Ronald, and Ryan Bausman; Sean, Alyssa, and Shaela Mauldin; Jordan and Shannon Woods; Ann Brooks; Landon Schutz; and Alexandria and Ian Torgerson. Also surviving are a sister, Rosemary (Chester) Keller of Portland, OR, a brother-in-law, Frank Wells of Castleford, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Emma Wells and Elsie Holderreed, and brothers Bill Holderread, Francis (Ginny) Holderreed and Elzie Holderreed.
