Clarence W. Hollifield

July 22, 1920 — July 15, 2008

Clarence William Hollifield-Hansen As the first rays of sunshine hit the fields of potatoes, grain and beans, Clarence William Hollifield took his last breath on his beloved farm on Tuesday, July 15, on week before his 88th birthday and shortly after celebrating his 65th wedding anniversary. This strong and determined man was born on July 22, 1920, to William and Anna VanZante Hollifield in Buhl, Idaho. At age 2 his family moved to Hansen where his father purchased a farm. Clarence and his two brothers and two sisters loved farm life and its challenges. Memories of sports victories and shenanigans were often dinner topics. Clarence graduated in 1939 from Hansen High School and immediately pursued his passion of farming, his courtship of a fellow classmate, Helen Barnard, and his commitment to community. He served on the first zoning committee started in Twin Falls County and he anxiously encouraged the establishment of the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls and was grateful for the experience of this committee. Clarence began serving on the Federal Land Bank Association's district board in 1984 and acted chairman for many years. He was Chairman of the Hansen School Board and an officer and member of the Twin Falls County Beet Growers, Idaho Cattle Feeders Association and Idaho Beet Growers. Clarence was appointed to serve on the Twin Falls County Hospital Board of Magic Valley Regional Medical Center and served as Chairman during the major modernization phase. He also served on the Farm Credit local board, the Spokane district board, and was elected to the National Board and traveled frequently to Washington, D.C. and other cities in the United States representing Farm Credit. He was inducted into the Southern Idaho Livestock Hall of Fame in 1998 and later served on the Twin Falls County Mutual Fire Board and the Rock Creek Rural Fire District Board. He also served on the Twin Falls Canal Company Board of Directors. Among Clarence's many accomplishments, he was most proud of the family farming legacy that continues through his son, Terry and his grandson, Larry. Larry is the fourth generation proudly farming in the Magic Valley. Clarence is survived by his partner and wife, Helen; son, William (Karla) Hollifield, Twin Falls; son, Terry (Carol) Hollifield, Hansen; daughter, Nancy (Kent) Taylor, Twin Falls; seven grandchildren, Analise (Fadi) Taylor, Los Angeles, CA; Anne (Steven) Pitts, Twin Falls; Paige (Brice) Dietzel, Boise; Larry (Christi) Hollifield, Kimberly; Meredith Taylor, Boise; Margi (Clint) Gunter, Sandpoint; and Matthew Taylor, Albany, New York. He is survived by five great-grandchildren and two expectant great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by step-grandchildren, Jason Kitley; Stefani Jenco and Megan (Paul) Rasmussen. His youngest brother, Roy (Wilma) Hollifield, Boise survives him. His sisters, Geneva Popplewell and Dorothy Carlson and his brother Robert Hollifield preceded him in death. The family would like to thank St. Luke's Home Health and Hospice and his care providers Jovita, Esmeralda and Lorena for their years of faithful caring. A visitation will take place 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls with internment immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park.
