Darrel Sherman McRoberts, 86, passed away after battling Dementia for many years on November 13, 2024, with his family by his side.
Darrel was born in Buhl, Idaho on September 13, 1938, to Ray and Clemantine McRoberts. He was their 11th child. He attended Buhl High School and upon graduation he enlisted with the Marine Corps. After serving in the Marines, he returned to Buhl and attended The School of Business in Twin Falls, Idaho. Here he met his wife, Joyce. They married in 1961 and together had 3 children: Wally, Angie (Craig) and Doug.
After completing Business School he began his career at Green Giant in Buhl. His career with Green Giant moved them to Illinois, Washington, Minnesota and back to Idaho in 1980. Darrel was always very involved in Politics. He served on City Council, Precinct committeeman and was elected to serve as a State Senator for Twin Falls District in the State of Idaho. After retiring from Green Giant Darrel and Joyce moved to Meridian Idaho. While in Meridian Darrel served as the Agriculture Advisor to Governor Dirk Kempthorne. He also served as the Liaison in the Department of Agriculture for Governor Butch Otter.
Having family around was something Darrel always cherished and welcomed. His 3 children married and added 9 grandchildren to the family: Michele (Kenny), Auston (Samantha), Heather (Kenny), Tabitha (Glyn), Joshua (Lynnsi), Kyler (Brittney), Tyson (Keilee), Isaac (Bri) and Elle (Dominique). His grandchildren then added 17 great grandchildren to the family: Kayden, Carter, Blake, Ava, Lucas, Maddison, Harvey, Adriana, Ryan, Maci, Amelia, Callum, Baker, Kamdynn, Thomas, Oakley and Benjamin. He was involved in all the lives of his family from parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his final years he would light up whenever any of them would come to visit. His family will never forget those moments of clarity.
Darrel loved to travel with Joyce and his family, camp, hunt, draw and take photos of everything. We all relied on him to have the camera at any family event. If something needed repaired Duct Tape was always the answer. It was important to him to always set an example to be good, help when he could, listen and be kind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ray and Clemantine, 10 siblings: Ellis, Earl, Fred, Don, Carl, Vada, Verna, Winnie, Janette and June.
He is survived by his wife; Joyce, 3 children; Wally, Angie (Craig) and Doug, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
We would like to Express our Thanks and Gratitude to ALL the staff at Renaissance Senior Care in Dillon, MT and HoneyBee Hospice in Dillon, MT where Angie lives and Darrel resided for the final 20 months of his life. Their love, care, compassion and knowledge were invaluable to Darrel and his family during his time with them.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Darrel on a future date to be determined.
