David Franklin Hughes

July 10, 1932 — November 6, 2020

David Franklin Hughes returned to his Heavenly home on Friday, November 6, 2020, after a valiant battle with chronic illness. He was surrounded by the support and care of his loved ones at the end. David was born July 10, 1932, in Pittsburg, Kentucky to Ballard P. and Mary Hughes. He was the youngest child with two older sisters and two older brothers. The family moved to Idaho where he attended and graduated from Buhl High School. He had a deep sense of love for his country. This desire to preserve the freedoms he enjoyed fed him to join the US Army in May 1955. Later that year he graduated from QuarterMaster School in October 1955. He served in the Korean war returning home in 1957 where he was honorably discharged in May of 1963. Dave's time in the Army taught him the values of hard work, resilience, and patriotism. He had a great love for his country and served in any capacity that he could to facilitate the freedom and patriotism that he so dearly valued. Many recognized his service and devotion, he was honored with a Veterans Ceremony in March 2018 and awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from US Idaho, Senator Mike Crapo. He was a Jack of all Trades and loved trying his hand at different things. He worked in many car dealerships, detailing and fixing cars and he loved working on electronics. No matter where he was, or who he worked with, people could see the goodness in his heart and he attracted many friends. People were drawn to his kindness, gentle demeanor, smile, and his sense of humor. Many would say that these qualities made him a real ladies man! He loved all and was a caring and loving man. He loved his children and his family most of all. His family held a special place in his heart and he will hold a very special place in ours. He loved life and was always smiling and happy. Dave loved to go "snooping." He could often be found snooping at the local auction, thrift stores, and pawn shops looking for treasures. He collected all kinds of stuff over the years and even in this endeavor he would be thinking of others; when he was looking for his own gems he would buy bicycles, fix them up, and then give them out to those in need. He was selfless and kind even to those he did not know. Of all the things he enjoyed doing, he most loved playing country music. He found his passion for playing the bass guitar and was in several bands including Country Feelings, Cimarron Express, and more. He played all over the western The U.S. and locally. He played at the Country and Western Jamboree at CSI in Twin Falls, Western Days, Sagebrush Days, Spanbars Barn in Jerome, and many of the local retirement facilities. His music made many dancers, smile, and love to live in that moment His music brought joy to others and joy to himself. Country music was his passion and he was one of the best bass players. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson. He is survived by Treena Algar (Twin Falls), Davey Ray (Twin Falls), Teresa Buckley (Mathew) Twin Falls, Debbie Hughes (Tuttle}, David Hughes (Precilla) Belton, TX. He has many grandchildren and a great-grandchild. We love you very much, Dad. Thank you for being the best father we could ever ask for and sharing your kind heart with us. We will miss you greatly and always cherish the moments that we have. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories. Rest in peace with all our love. One day we will see each other again. We love you. The family would like to thank Harrison's Hope Hospice, his Chaplain, and his entire care team for their continued loving care of our Dad. We also would like to thank Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home for their wonderful care during this time.
