Dewey Williamson,75 of Twin Falls, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital. He was born on February 7, 1949, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Rudy and Marie Williamson.

First and most importantly, Dewey Williamson loved his son, Dewey Jr. “DJ,” more than anything else in life, and he and his wife Phyllis have spent their lives caring for and loving DJ.  They have been wonderful and amazing parents to their son.

Dewey’s other love was Corvette automobiles, and he owned two, one of them a 1978 that his sister Sandra purchased with Dewey when they were in their 60s!  They loved cruising Twin Falls together, and though their time spent together in Twin Falls was short, they made the most of it. Dewey also enjoyed playing baseball.  When he was in Little League, Dewey was the Homerun King Champ 4-5 years in a row, meaning he hit more homeruns than any other kid in the league!  Dewey was proud of that record, and he and his Dad, Rudy, often discussed the season’s winning baseball team at Harmon Park each summer.  Dewey and his Mother, Marie, had a beautiful closeness where they would talk on the telephone frequently when Dewey’s family lived in Texas, and Marie loved having Dewey around for assistance and companionship after they moved back to Twin Falls.  Dewey split his time between his own home and the Kimes Street house that was owned by his parents, and then by his sister.  He worked extremely hard to renovate the Kimes home before selling it, after his parents and sister passed away.  Selling the Kimes house was not easy for Dewey, or anyone else in Twin Falls who knew the Williamsons for all the parties and happy times that were had in that house.  But Dewey prided himself on the extremely well-done renovation work, and he knew that he had absolutely done his very best to honor his family’s memory and legacy.

Dewey served in the United States Army, beginning in 1970, along with his cousin Herb, where they were selected to be whitecoats.  Dewey was a few weeks ahead of Herb, so Herb could count on Dewey to help guide him.  Herb tells the story when, upon Herb’s first day at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, Texas, he and Dewey and other recruits were sent to interview for the position of whitecoats, given that they had signed up as conscientious objectors when drafted.  Sixty soldiers would be selected to be whitecoats from a pool of 180; and the next day at chapel, they would learn which 60 were chosen.  Because Herb was new, he obeyed when his sergeant incorrectly informed him that he wouldn’t be allowed to go to chapel.  So, when Dewey ran to tell Herb that Dewey had been selected for whitecoats, Herb was thrilled but then asked, “What about me?”  Dewey said, “You were number 60 - you just made it!”  That meant neither of them would be sent to Vietnam, but they would instead remain stateside and have responsibilities in a health/medical area, where they both served and were discharged honorably.  We are grateful and proud of Dewey’s service to our country.

Dewey was always happy, smiling, and cheerful.  He surely enjoyed the gift of gab, and when he and his cousins – they called him Doodlebugs - were together, there was always a lot of laughter most of all.  Dewey enjoyed visiting and talking cars with friends and acquaintances he met throughout his life.  He was a kind and gentle man who was easy to get to know, and he always made you feel at ease to be around him.  We all loved Dewey and will miss him very much.

He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, and dear son D.J., he was preceded in death by his parents Rudy and Marie Williamson along with Sister Sandra Jo Williamson. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
