Colonel Edwin C. Hudson, Air Force veteran, insurance professional, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on May 16th, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in 1933 in Twin Falls, Idaho, Ed's life was marked by service, dedication, and boundless love for God, his country, his family, and community.
Ed grew up in Castleford, Idaho where he helped tend to the family farm, and later went to college at the University of Idaho. After graduating from U of I, where he received his commission through the AFROTC program, Ed embarked on a distinguished military career. He graduated from pilot training in 1956, laying the groundwork for 27 years of honorable service to his country. Throughout his military tenure, Ed exemplified bravery, integrity, and leadership, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him. But life wasn’t just about his work, so in his free time he reveled in racing his beloved Corvettes! In 1982 he was awarded the Legion of Merit Award. Shortly afterwards, he retired from the Air Force, moved back home to Idaho, and transitioned seamlessly into a successful career with Twin Falls Mutual Insurance Company.
Ed's devotion extended beyond his professional endeavors to his cherished family, who brought immeasurable joy and fulfillment to his life. He is survived by his four children: Daughters, Susan Wells and her husband, Sumner of Mountain Home, Idaho and Danielle Drake and her husband, Mike of Smiths Ferry, Idaho; sons Stephen Hudson and his wife, Katherine of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Tom Hudson and his wife, Cory Ryan of Austin, Texas. His beloved grandchildren Michael and his wife Tammy Holmberg, Joshua and River Drake, Zachary Hudson, and Chloe and Felix Hudson were a source of pride in his life and he cherished the time he was able to spend with them. Ed is also survived by 3 great grandchildren: Aiden Zimmerman, and Lucas and Emma Holmberg.
Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Erlene “Happy” Ford and her husband, Phil of Boise, Idaho, and his sister-in-law, Billie Ann Foster of Vidalia, Louisiana. Ed’s legacy is further enriched by his devoted niece, Gherri “Gigi” Hudson of Meridian, Idaho, and cousin, Retta Wuebenhorst of Buhl, Idaho.
Ed is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Sue Hudson, his brother, Gherrie Hudson, and his parents, Earl and Kenneth Hudson.
A devout member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church of Kimberly, Ed's faith was the cornerstone of his life, providing guidance, strength, and solace in times of joy and sorrow.
Ed will be fondly remembered for his infectious laughter, zest for life, and passion for outdoor pursuits. He found great pleasure and rejuvenation in fishing, hunting, and sharing special moments with loved ones. His warm hospitality and genuine kindness endeared him to all who had the pleasure of his company.
The family would like to recognize and thank the dedication and friendship of Jim Isern and the staff of Table Rock Senior Living, and Kalyn Morgan and the staff of Idaho Home Health and Hospice.
