Fredrick Herman Wanman, 92 of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 8, 2023 surrounded by his family. Fred was born at his family home on Addison Avenue in Twin Falls, Idaho on February 12, 1931, to Herman and Idona (Nebeker) Wanman. After graduating from the Twin Falls High School, his first winter job was at Bill Newman's sheep ranch at Shoshone. That was the difficult winter of 1948-49. He lived in a big bunkhouse which had a large pot belly stove in the center. They would have a roaring fire when they went to bed, but by morning, water on the stove would be frozen solid! He was always up for a challenge and was never afraid of hard work. Fred married Carole (Landholm) Seavey in 1963 including Bryan an Jana, Eric came along in 1965 completing the family. They farmed in the Twin Falls/Kimberly area for many years. Dad was proud of the crops, cattle, horses and dogs that he raised and put many long hours into providing for his family. He was always encouraging his children to participate in 4-H and sports. He was a member of the CSI Booster Club. He enjoyed a close friendship with the coach Boyd Grant and invited several of the players for meals at their home. They traveled several times for basketball tournaments and were always up for meeting new friends. Fred and Carole later divorced. Fred later married Yutonna Giltner on December 1, 1985 in Reno, Nevada. They worked on and cared for several different ranches. He ran cattle for Glenn Nelson on the Blick's ranch. He enjoyed helping many "local" people with their cattle - no matter the size of the outfit. He helped Merle Row put in a new pipeline. Thank you Lola Blossom for your friendship! He worked for the Pleasant Valley Grazing Association for many years, living in a camp trailer in the South Hills during the week so that he could care for the cows he was watching over. He built many water lines to bring drink to the cows up south. He had an old green truck named "The Goat" that only had several hundred thousand miles on it - that truly carried dad wherever he needed to go. There was a hole in the floor board - you could see the ground - so convenient to spit his chew! His best friend Rock, loyal dog companion rode in the seat next to dad. There finally came the time for retirement around the age of 78 as he could no longer get on his horse - tho it wasn't for not trying! He would "pull his horse up to his trailer near the fender - climb on the fender step and then into the stirrup! He was full of determination! He enjoyed meeting up with all of the men he had worked with for breakfast, coffee and chatting! Roger Jones, Rob Rogerson, Tom Thatcher, Dan Orr - just to name a few of the group who loved and supported our dad. His two favorite places were the Twin Falls Stock Yard and Perkins to visit with his friend Tony. Dad changed his routine when his wife Toni began to really struggle with dementia in 2020 so that he could take care of her needs until her death on March 28, 2021. He had an extremely strong will and at the age of 90, continued to drive so that he could stay in touch with friends, sometimes to the fear and dismay of his daughter!! He was always looking for ways to help his family and to stay young and busy - running automotive parts and doing errands kept him in daily connection to his grandson Matt - being able to visit and watch Matt pursue his career goals pleased him. He always looked forward to seeing his great grandson Mason and was amazed and humored at his energy!! He especially enjoyed last Thanksgiving spent at Matt and Jess' home with family and great food. Dad loved watching football, basketball, rodeo and Wheel of Fortune - he looked forward to many friends coming to visit - to watch some tv and usually bring tasty goodies! He would have eaten a hamburger every day of his life if he had the choice! At 89, the body he had made strong all his life, broke his hip! Fell on a Monday, walked on it for two days until Wednesday when it failed completely. This would be the first time in his life to stay at a hospital! He was very fortunate to only ever have 3 hospital stays (born in his family home) for all of the interesting things he did in his life! His daughter Jana was always waiting for that phone call from Rob or Sid that someone had found him broken somehow in the mountains, but that call never came!! God was certainly watching over his every step!! He had a standing Wednesday breakfast date with his kids. Sometimes taking a drive around the countryside - he knew every piece of land and who had owned it "back in the day" - awe, the stories he could tell you!! The night before he passed, Jana's boyfriend Kenny and Jana spent time at 3am discussing dad selling 60 ton of hay - or more if you had it - really good hay, for $30 a ton! Hay prices just a few days back! We would haul it out on Jana's big truck (which I don't have) - and we would pay by check like we did "last year"! Oh how he loved farming! He always carried his cell phone in his left pocket - this kept him connected to family and friends in the last couple of years when he couldn't be out and about. His final day, he kept wanting to call Eric, reaching to find it and call - Jana had to keep reminding him that Eric was digging a pond and was coming shortly!! He could remember phone numbers amazingly and was telling us Eric's number to call. He would not let go until Eric was at his side. As he approached the end, there was an overwhelming heat temperature change in his room - as we opened up the window to cool the room, he said good bye! Dad truly loved the outdoors and now he is in those beautiful mountains!! Dad truly loved, valued and appreciated the many friends that he made through the years. He had so many amazing stories and they always included the love and respect he held for so many, as well as a few drinks and shenanigans along the way. Thank you for being a special part of our dad's life!! Fred is survived by two sons, Bryan Wanman of Boise, Idaho and Eric Wanman of Buhl, Idaho and his daughter, Jana Wanman of Jerome, Idaho, along with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. His niece Kathy Hawley and nephew Roger Allen and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife Toni, his sister Barbara, his parents and many extended family members. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10a.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Id.
