George R Pullin, age 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday March 17, 2021. George was born in Vernon County, Missouri on June 12th, 1935 to George and Glessner Pullin. He attended schools in Nevada, Missouri but the amount of time he actually spent in the classroom was debatable. Any chance he got to “play Hooky” and go fishing, trapping, or hunting with his Grandpa he gladly took it (along with the punishment later). He and Grandpa would sneak off to their highly secret fishing spots with a loaf of bread and a slab of bologna for lunch. They would share tall tales and occasionally some chewing tobacco. They always made sure they were getting home by the time school was letting out. George suspected his mom knew their secret all along. George moved to Arkansas when he was three and back to Missouri when he was 12 George moved from Missouri to Idaho in 1952 and was briefly married to his first wife. However, George always had a spark in his heart for Margaret Moore. They had dated as youngsters and as fate would have it, love brought them back together again. On January 6th, 1969 they tied the knot for good. Margaret had two sons from her previous marriage, Robert Biggs and Rick Pullin, which George loved and raised as his own. Then, in 1978 they had a daughter, Micki Pullin (Rice). George did many things in his life including serving five years in the National Guard. But he always found time for hunting and trapping. Logging took up a large portion of his life. He loved being in the mountains and logging gave him the freedom to take care of his trapping itch in the winter. At the age of 62 George started a small pig farm on his property. He raised some 2000 hogs for market each year for several years. George could never fulfill his need for trapping and eventually it became a fulltime thing. He couldn’t wait for fall when coyote trapping started. It was nothing for him to pull in several hundred coyotes a season. Then he would go straight to bobcat trapping in the winter. This was probably his favorite as it presented a few more challenges. He loved the lifestyle of a trapper. He also loved talking amongst other trappers. His successes didn’t go unnoticed. In 2004 the Idaho Trappers Association inducted him into their Hall of Fame. This was probably one of his greatest accomplishments. George was one of the last true mountain men, but he was also a simple, kind soul who was a genuine gentleman. Being outdoors allowed him to escape the craziness of everyday life and enjoy the small things that mother nature had to offer. When George wasn’t in the mountains, he could be found at home raising a garden big enough to feed the whole neighborhood. He also loved wood working, building benches, birdhouses and rustic furniture he would sell at local farmers markets. After all that was done, he could be found sitting under the tree in the shade with a cold glass of iced tea watching hummingbirds fly over the many feeders he would put out every year. George is survived by his daughter Micki (Steve) Rice, Rick (Mary) Pullin, and Kevin Biggs. His sister Helen (Ken) Cummins of Kimberly, sister, Geneal Andrews of Jerome, and brother Dean (Clela) Pullin of Missouri. Grandchildren Taryn, George, Adam, Will, Jessica, Brook, CJ, Hollie, Jentry, Garrett, and many great grandchildren. He has numerous nieces and nephews that he was very close to and loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Glessner Pullin, his wife of 48 plus years Margaret Pullin, one sister Wilma, and two brothers Leonard and Bill Pullin. George lived his life on his terms. I think he would encourage us all to do a little of that as well. To slow down how fast things were moving and take time to enjoy the simpler things in life…with no regrets and a heart full of love. The funeral will be held Thursday the 25th at 1:00 PM at Parkes Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly RD, Twin Falls Idaho. All are welcome to celebrate his life. There will be a luncheon following the service. Special thanks to Tami and the staff at Hospice Visions for all the amazing work they do. Extra special thank you to Jentry, Garrett and Justin.
