On the evening of January 7, 2021, after many months of ill health, our precious Savior gathered our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Gerald John Sievers, age 90, of Kimberly, Idaho, in his loving arms and took him home to his Heavenly rest. Gerald, the fifth child of Henry Sr and Margareta Haartje Sievers, was born on July 8, 1930, in Kimberly, Idaho. Growing up on the family farm he developed a strong work ethic and a love of agriculture. After receiving his education through the Kimberly Schools, he was drafted and served in the US Army from 1950-52, being stationed in Germany as a military policeman. Upon his honorary discharge, Gerald rented a farm southwest of Twin Falls, Idaho, and thus began his own farming operation. On August 25, 1957, Gerald married the love of his life Wanda Lutz, at Clover, Idaho. They moved to the Murtaugh area in the fall of 1958 where they farmed and lived for 45 years. In 2003, they retired and moved to Kimberly. However, he continued to operate the combine during harvest until 2014 when his health forced him to completely retire. Gerald and Wanda were blessed with three children and seven grandchildren: Ruth (Mel) Harder, Twin Falls – children Joe Harder, Tom Harder, Larissa Clark; Douglas (Terrie), Murtaugh – children Kari Estes, Joel Sievers; and Gregory (Stephanie), Murtaugh – children Shailey Sievers, Taylor Sievers. Gerald was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Twin Falls. In 1962, he became a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kimberly, volunteering many hours to help construct the building and serving in other capacities throughout his lifetime. He also served on irrigation and agricultural boards and was a trustee on the Murtaugh School Board. Besides being his livelihood, farming became Gerald’s number one hobby. Homemade ice-cream in the summer with his family was always a favorite. He also enjoyed a good debate with his best buddies. Gerald is survived by his wife of 63 years, his children, grandchildren, brothers Henry (Marilyn) and Herman, both of Kimberly, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters Johanna Brown and Margareta Mayer. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, concern, phone calls, and visits. Also, a very special thank you is extended to the wonderful caregivers with Hospice Visions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice; Lutheran Camp Perkins Outdoor Ministries, 219 S River St, Ste 203, Hailey, ID 83333; Hospice Visions, 1770 Parkview Dr. Twin Falls, ID 83301; or Worship Anew, c/o Peace Lutheran Church, PO Box 33, Filer, ID 83328. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kimberly. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow at the Clover Cemetery. A reception luncheon is planned after the burial at Canyon Crest in Twin Falls, in addition, those wishing to share memories and condolences on Gerald's Memorial page at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com.
