Harry Simrel Eslinger, 97, passed away on July 22, 2021. Harry was born in Cedar Springs, Missouri on August 14, 1923 to Lewis and Edith Eslinger. He graduated from Curry High School and married Ruth Scherbinske on July 9, 1944. They raised two children in Buhl, Idaho and enjoyed nearly 40 years together until Ruth’s passing in 1983.
In December 1944, Harry joined the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines, where he served as a Corporal. Upon his return, he worked as a Field Representative for PET Milk for over 40 years.
Harry loved the Lord and he loved to fish. He spent time doing both until one day he met Maurine Hopkins who had similar interests. Together they enjoyed the next 25 years traveling, chasing grandchildren, visiting friends and, of course, fishing.
Harry enjoyed being outdoors, hunting birds with his old dog Freckles, tracking a deer through the woods, and trolling reservoirs for “the big one.” In his last days, Harry expressed that he had lived “an excellent life.” You absolutely did Harry - and you made our lives excellent as well.
Harry is pre-deceased by his first wife, Ruth Scherbinske Eslinger, second wife Maurine Hopkins Eslinger, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by 1 brother and 1 sister, his children, Barbara (Pat) Elkin, of Buhl, Idaho and John (Tommy) Eslinger, of Puyallup, Washington, 3 grandchildren (Ron (Inga) Elkin, Robert Elkin, Vicky Elkin), 3 great-grandchildren (Jim Elkin, Reina Elkin, Aaliyah Langdon), 1 great-great grandchild (Ryleigh Langdon), his special companion, Lorraine Herge, and good friend, Dale Clay.
The Family would like to deeply express their appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Bridgeview Estates. It was a joy to meet and share in his friendships and social interactions over the last few years. He truly enjoyed the years he spent at Bridgeview. We would also like to thank Visions Home Health & Hospice for their care and support, the compassion shown by your staff has been comfort to our family.
