Irene Christensen

November 3, 1922 — May 11, 2024

Buhl

Irene (Young) Christensen was born November 3, 1922, in Albion, Nebraska to Perry and Pearl Young. Irene died on May 11, 2024, in Buhl, Idaho at the age of 101 years old. She attended schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1939 and attended Larsen’s Business School in Twin Falls, Idaho.

She met and married the love of her life Roy Christensen in St. Edwards, Nebraska. They were married in Chicago, Illinois in 1942 when Roy was stationed at Navy Pier attending Aviation Metalsmith School during World War II.  Their children Connie and Galen were both born in Pensacola, Florida while Roy was stationed at the Navy base there. When Roy was released from the Navy they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where Irene’s parents had moved there from Nebraska. They lived in Twin Falls for many years, spending four years in Billings, Montana, and then moving to Buhl, Idaho in 2012.

Before Roy retired, he had a livestock transportation business and had many farmer and rancher friends whom he did business with. Irene worked in the office for the Twin Falls Livestock Commission Company, and Ranchers Auction for many years during their sales days. She and her daughter Connie opened up the Gift Garden in Twin Falls, which they sold several years later when their daughter and family moved to Texas.

Later in life her three granddaughters became the focal point of her life, enjoying every minute she spent with them going on camping trips to Ketchum, Yellowstone Park, or swimming at Nat-Soo-Pah. Irene’s specialty was her famous apple pies.

Roy and Irene spent 25 years going to their home in Val Vista Village in Mesa, Arizona for six months during the winter, playing cards, pitching horseshoes, and dancing every chance they got to the wonderful orchestras in the other area parks. They made many special friends in Arizona.

They had a wonderful 70th anniversary party years ago hosted by their daughter and grandchildren in Buhl, Idaho.

Irene’s parents proceeded her in death. Along with her sister; Darlene Danichek, her brother; Marvin Young, her son; Lonnie Lynn who died at birth, her son Galen Christensen who died on August 30, 2015, and her husband Roy Christensen who dies on April 20, 2014.

She is survived by her daughter; Connie (Tracy) Hansen of Buhl, Idaho, daughter-in-law; Janice Christensen of Buhl, Idaho, grandson; Dave (Shelley) Brenner  of Ann Arbor, Michigan, granddaughter; Lori (Gary) Austill of Pocatello, Idaho, Kari (Tom) Hansen-Daffin of Littleton, Colorado, Tira Linn (Vernon) Scott of Studio City, California, and eight great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who held a special place in Irene’s heart. Many grateful thanks go to Megan, Nicki, Maddie, Mary, and Layl of Autumn Crest Hospice. They were wonderful and mother loved every one of them. We couldn’t have this transition without their caring and love.
