Jack Cornette

July 4, 1942 — October 1, 2022

Jackie Wayne Cornette 80, of Wendell, Idaho passed away peacefully Saturday, October 1, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Twin Falls, Idaho. Jack battled many health issues after he broke his leg in 2020. Jack was born in Luzerne, Kentucky on July 4, 1942. Jack enjoyed the fact that the whole country was celebrating his birthday every year along with him. Jack was a resident of Wendell, Idaho and had decided to move there in 2006 to be closer to his family and friends that lived in the Magic Valley. Jack retired from driving truck after an accident that made it difficult for him to drive a big rig. Jack never missed a car show if there was a way for him to go. A week after his knee replacement, he managed to get himself into his 54 Chevy and make it to Hagerman for a “Blast on the Grass.” Jack was the kind of guy that could and would strike up a conversation with whoever was close by. Many would get a taste of his humor and sarcasm and not know how to take it. He loved to see people’s reactions to his remarks with a chuckle and a smile. In 1999, Jack married Jan Gooding in Santa Nella, California. Each had had quite different lives and all the baggage that life brings. There was a calmness for both as they grew together. Life has a way of putting people together when the timing is right. Jack and Jan enjoyed 24 years of friendship and love, each supporting each other in their dreams, hopes and challenges. Jack grew up and attended schools in Ogden, Utah. Jack married Joy M. Manwaring, and they had four children: Stacey, Corey, Kelby, and Jody. Jack was a man of adventure and did it all. He joined the Army, Navy, and Merchant Marines. He was a Vietnam veteran. Jack worked for Boeing and McClellan Air Force Base in his younger years. Truck driving, building beautiful classic cars and talking about car things with his friends were Jack’s favorite pastimes. Jack’s car club Staggs celebrated 65 years in 2022 and Jack was honored to be a part of it. Jack was also a member of the Idaho Chariots. Jackie was the youngest child of Blanche Agnes Hammer and Shelby Joseph Cornette who preceded him in death. Jackie is survived by his siblings Claudette (Bill) Hoggan of Warrensburg, Mo., and Shelby Cornett (Louise) of Ogden Utah. Jack’s nephew Scott Hoggan also preceded him. Jackie was the proud father of Stacey (Adam) Korbitz, Monona Wisconsin; Corey Keevy (Kelly) Spokane, WA., Kelby Cornett (Erika) Hagerman, Id; and Jody Allen (Rick) of Arizona. Jack was also stepfather to Donny Gooding (Melissa) Gilroy, California, Joshua Waldrop, Kennewick, WA; Adam Waldrop (Gina) Morgan Hill, Ca.: Katie Morris (Dave) Kennewick, WA. Jack’s grandchildren: Elayna, Benjamin, Tia, Brittney, Jessica, and Cody. He was also Grandpa to Adam, Christian, Briana, Angelic, Joshua, Eliana, and Carson. Jack is survived by several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special mention to the young men that continued to check on Jack as he was declining, Joseph and his three sons Santos, Carlos and Junior Gutierrez, Chris and Wyatt Woods and Floyd Smith. Thank you to the staff at St Luke’s. Thank you to the nurses and therapists that worked with Jack over the last couple of years. You gave him hope when there was none. A memorial service and celebration of life will be October 29,2022 at 11:00 am at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd., Twin Falls, ID 83301. Jack’s family would encourage friends and family to bring their favorite ride (car show car). In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite veteran charity.
