Joan Edith Cress, age 83 of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 15, 2024.
Joan was born February 27, 1941, in Monterey Park, California. She was the third of four daughters, born to Genevieve Edith (Mitchell) Smith and Homer William Smith.
The Smith family moved to Southern Idaho where Joan grew up with her 3 sisters. Family was very important to her, and she and her sisters shared a very special bond that continued throughout their lifetimes.
Joan met Harold "Cork" Cress while attending high school in Twin Falls, Idaho. They were married on October 18, 1958. To this union two sons were born, Cory and Thad Cress.
Joan was a dedicated employee of Kings Department Store from where she retired after a fulfilling career.
Joan loved the outdoors and had a love of plants and gardening; she was particularly fond of cacti and succulents. She enjoyed camping in her younger years and spending time with Cork at their pasture with their horses and donkeys. She loved dogs and had many special pets throughout her lifetime.
Joan was known for her handwork; she enjoyed embroidery, crocheted beautifully, and was an excellent seamstress. She was a long-time collector of antiques buttons, and was a member of the Pioneer button Club, Idaho Button Society, and the National Button Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son's Cory and Thad, sister Bev Anderson, brothers-in-law Don Anderson, Dr. John Lowry, and Harley Sizemore.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold "Cork" Cress, sisters Barbara Sizemore and Joyce Lowry, brother-in Law Dan (Shirley) Cress, and many nieces and nephews, and her beloved pug, Walter. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family is planning a private service to honor and celebrate her life.
