John Neal Morton

May 12, 1980 — January 2, 2025

Portland

John Neal Morton, 44, of Portland, OR passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2025. John “SK-8” was born in Murry, Utah to his loving parents, Jerry & Teddie Morton. He attended Kimberly High School graduating in 1998, and from there John decided to live a life of true freedom. Traveling the United States in his early twenty’s, he ventured from east to west coast living in Ohio and New York for a short time finally landing in Portland where he took root, blossoming surrounded by his people and his ride or die companion, Ziggy. John had the kindest soul and biggest heart. He had many loves in his life, one being his family and another, Portland. People who truly knew John say no matter what his circumstances he would always share what he had all the way down to the literal shirt off his back. Living a life of freedom, he was a daredevil and a non-conformist, facing life on his own terms. In his younger years you would find him skating alongside his best friends heading down at his favorite swimming hole along the snake river, Dierkes Lake. He was crazy about rock climbing and cliff diving just to name one of his favorite thrills. John was an avid skateboarder; he relished the freedom skating gave him, there wasn’t a time you would see him without his board.

John was preceded in death by many family members, including his father Jerry Morton, who are waiting for him. He is survived by his mother, Teddie Morton, siblings Rick (Shauna), Tracy (Crystal), Robyn (Travis), many nieces and nephews and so many other family members who loved him deeply. The family will hold a private service on January 29th followed by a celebration of life to be announced later in the year.

John left a small footprint on this earth, but a very large hole in our hearts. May you skate forever in the heavens; young, wild and free.

Thank you, Sandy Funeral Home, in Sandy, OR and Wilks of Magic Valley in Twin Falls, ID for their excellent care and services.

“In a world that tries to box us in, skateboarding encourages us to break free and carve our own path.”
