John Albert Shepherd (December 13th 1944 – Dec. 3rd 2022) John Shepherd, or “Shep” as he was known by so many passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls Idaho at the ripe old age of seventy-seven (10 days short of his 78th birthday). He was born in Loma Linda California to Wilma Flora Childers and Edward Childers but was later adopted by Albert Shepherd when his mother remarried. As a child John moved from California to Telluride Colorado, and then to Delta Colorado where he grew up on the family farm – something that greatly impacted his life. In the late 1970’s, John moved from Colorado to Idaho, which he would call home for the rest of his life. John was an excellent auto and big rig mechanic which he did at various phases of his adulthood. John also drove big rigs and logged over 4 million miles crisscrossing all of the lower 48 states. John knew geographical features, roads, exit(s), and mile markers like the back of his hand, and he would amaze people with his intimate knowledge of the places he had traveled. Earlier in his adulthood he worked on race cars which he really enjoyed doing. He always spoke fondly of his childhood friends and family, especially his time in Delta Colorado. John loved the mountains and spent a lot of time in the mountains after he retired. He loved going hunting in the Fall with his sons, and family friends, especially to enjoy camp life. John also loved to learn about history and politics and he had a strong love for our country. John spent the last few years of his life in Jerome, Idaho living near his youngest son, David and his family and he seemed to know he was living on borrowed time. John made the most of the last few years to make peace w/ people and his God and he passed away somewhat on his own terms. He is survived by his sons Elton Shepherd and David Shepherd, daughter in laws Michele Shepherd & Amy Shepherd, and his grandkids Michael John, Ellianah, Nathan, Samuel, Kaleb, and Levi. He was preceded in death by his mother and other precious loved ones whom we trust he is having a great reunion with now. Elton and David really appreciate all the outpouring of love, support and sharing of memories by family and friends alike - many of which are from people going way back and have known John for a long time. A memorial for friends and family will be held in Jerome, Idaho early this summer. A firm date will be set between now and then. Another memorial will be held later this summer in the Topeka Kansas area for those that are unable to make it to the earlier date in Jerome - more information will be disclosed when firm dates are set. John’s ashes will be spread near one of his favorite camping and hunting places this upcoming summer. He is loved by his family and he will be missed greatly.
