Jon Charles Goodman departed this life on October 2, 2023, after an extended illness that he navigated with remarkable resilience. He was born to Hjalmer and Harriet Goodman on October 16th, 1949, in Rugby, North Dakota. The youngest of three boys, “Jonny” was raised on the family farm and ranch in Upham, North Dakota, with his two older brothers, Milton and Myron. Jon married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Brandt on October 20, 1967, in Upham. The young couple had two children, Vaughn and Kristin, and spent their early married life having new experiences in cities of the Midwest as Jon was promoted within the banking industry. His career as a commercial loan officer fueled an interest to pursue a variety of his own entrepreneurial pursuits, including big game outfitting, that eventually led the family to Salmon, Idaho. Jon loved the outdoors and especially his time spent guiding hunters in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, often the subject of many of his favorite stories. Later relocating to Boise, Jon put his considerable talents to use creating a custom golf club fitting business as well as repairing, maintaining, and upgrading commercial buildings in downtown Boise. To his family, Jon was known for his ability to figure out a way to fix, build, or grow most anything and swiftly complete newspaper crossword puzzles – in ink. Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Harriet and Hjalmer, and brother, Myron Goodman. Later divorcing, Jon and Gladys maintained a lasting and caring relationship, and he is survived by Gladys, his children Vaughn (Holly) Goodman, Kristin (Mark) Troy, four grandchildren he adored; Peyton and Paxton Goodman, Sylas (Mae) and Ava Troy, brother Milton Goodman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jon deeply appreciated and was proud of his Icelandic heritage. His internment will be held at a later date alongside his Icelandic family in the Melankton Cemetery in Upham, North Dakota. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family in the guestbook section below.
