September 19th, 1976 – July 25th, 2021
After an arduous battle with kidney disease, with his sights set on the road to recovery in hopes of a transplant, Josh waved goodnight to pain and suffering in this world on Sunday July 25th, 2021.
Josh was defined by his presence. Everyone knew when Josh was around because everyone knew him, not just because he was tall and spoke loudly. He stuck out and stood for everyone with handshakes and group photos. One of his greatest strengths was hospitality. Josh loved music so much that all he wanted was for everyone to be able to enjoy it with him. As a passionate entrepreneur, Josh’s heart and soul were poured into crafting art designs, band merchandise, and concerts like Rockfest in Burley, Idaho – he did everything he could to make each show the greatest possible opportunity for everyone to come together and have a great time.
Josh loved harder than most and was loved by many. What he wanted most was to be at the show, rock out with his friends, and have breakfast together the next morning. He chose his final days to be spent living it up at a rock concert with those he cared for and respected. Together with family and friends, new and old, the world of live music had often been at the heart of each moment that had made him feel more alive and happier than anything.
A Celebration of Life for Josh will be held Saturday August 14th, 2021 at the home of his sister, Sybil Helmer-Whittaker, at 131 West 330 South Jerome, Idaho at 3:30 p.m.
Josh so loved music and togetherness that we are opening up camping on August 13th and 14th, Friday and Saturday nights, with breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. For friends and family from out of town or in the area that want to join us for a weekend filled with music, celebration, and remembrance, bring your tents, campers, and RVs (no hook-ups). Please bring your own chairs and beverages (water will be available).
Friday night, we will have a bonfire for all to enjoy some roasted hot dogs, chips, and of course s’mores for the kid in us! On Saturday, dinner and a live rock show will be provided following the service.
Music was Josh’s life, and some of his local favorite rock bands have been asked to play one last time in his honor. Live music will be on Saturday starting around 5:30 PM. Loss Of Existence, So Many Demons, and Rain For Dust will be taking the stage along with special guest Anthony Dumalag.
Josh is survived by his mother Shawn “Mommie” Miller, father Art “Pops” Miller, brother George Whittaker, sister Sybil (Kurt) Whittaker-Helmer, sons Mike (Catalina Hansen) Whittaker and Shawn Whittaker, daughter Jacquelyn Whittaker, granddaughter Penelope Whittaker, nephews Tanner & Hunter Whittaker and Ethan Helmer, nieces Ellie, Ellyse & Edalie Helmer and Zoe Grant, aunt Sheryl (Robert) Van Slooten, cousins Jareth (Janae LeClair) Van Slooten and Aylarose Van Slooten.
