Judy Ann Duncan, 71 of Kimberly passed away peacefully in her home Sunday January 12th, 2020. Judy was born in Jerome on April 21, 1948 to Howard and Carma Duncan while they lived on the farm in Sugarloaf. Judy started school in Jerome and moved to Burley in the 8th grade; she graduated from Burley High School in 66’ and went to Idaho State University for one year then transferred to University of Idaho where she graduated with a Bachelors in Math, a Bachelors in education then with a Masters in education so she could be a Principal. She taught at Twin Falls High School then taught in Bliss. She was active in the teachers Association and learned of a job at the Idaho State Prison. After taking the job within a few years she became Principal. She developed an individual study course for the prisoners so they could self teach themselves when unable to go to class. She taught math in Spanish also. As a state employee she traveled to very small schools that might only have one student per grade. That study course is similar to the course used for homeschoolers today. The only thing she ever complained about was the sound of the prison door locks and having to qualify in marksmanship as a state employee. Many of her students thanked her for there education so they could make a living the right way once they got out of prison. Some years after retiring from teaching Judy and her roommate Carol Caster used to travel to places all over Idaho and take pictures for Carol’s photography business. Judy then got into making jewelry with her sister Dixie and they would travel to all the “Local” arts and crafts fairs to sell there makings. Judy and Dixie always had so much fun making jewelry together and learning how to make the newest craze in jewelry or learn how to make a necklace they saw on someone on TV. They would meet up and make a day of beading, laughing and enjoying each others company. They were always so excited to show what they had been working on while each was at home. Judy was always such a wonderful person to be around, whether you needed advice, someone to listen or just someone to laugh with. Judy will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by 3 brothers Scott Duncan, Rocky Duncan and Ron Shockley and nieces and nephews, Kendle McKnight, Bucky Summers, Clay Shockley, Rob Shockley, Ainslie Duncan and Britney Jensen. Judy was cremated and ashes will be scattered at Stanley Lake and the surrounding mountains there. Arrangements will be made at a later date for friends and family to attend a service and place her headstone.
