Julia Ann “Judy” Knapp passed away on March 20, 2024 in Twin Falls, ID. Judy was the only child born to Forrest Glen “Chief” Kennedy and Nannie Sibyl Thacker in Ardmore, Oklahoma on March 17, 1942. Judy spent time with cousins as companions, especially in the summer when her mother, a school teacher, would be off work. They traveled often and lived in many places for her dad’s work. Summers spent in Oklahoma with family was always her favorite time.
Judy graduated high school in 1960 in Casper Wyoming. Married her high school sweetheart after graduation, attended secretarial school and in 1962 had her only child, a son, Kevin. Later divorcing, Judy took her secretarial training and eventually moved to Washington State where she became the world’s biggest Seahawks fan. She had many jobs in and around the Seattle area. Retiring as a legal secretary for over 20 years when she moved to Ellensburg.
Judy was very proud of her native heritage and would attend Pow-Wow of her Kansa Tribe in the Kaw Nation many times. She attended her last Pow-Wow this past summer, although she was not able to “dance” she was grateful to be present.
Judy was a “crafty” person and enjoyed many different crafts through the years. Needlework and making cards were her favorites, as time went on, she swapped needlework for diamond art and spent the last 6 years making many gifts of diamond art for people. She was probably most known for her handmade cards though and would always put a red heart and sign “Judy” on the back of a card before she would send it out.
In 2015 she married Gary Knapp and moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. Gary and Judy had attended high school together in Casper and although they didn’t date back then, they knew each other. He was a widow and they connected through Facebook and began to talk and eventually marry.
Judy was preceded in death by both of her parents and her son. She is survived by her husband, Gary Knapp, his 3 daughters Mary Knapp, Marilyn (Rob) Tillett and Myra (Paul) Montano, 2 grandsons Ryan & Tyler and 5 great-grand children.
