Kenneth "Squeak" Major

March 29, 1943 — September 2, 2024

Twin Falls

Kenneth “Squeak” Major was born on March 29, 1943, in Buhl, Idaho to Nancy and Leslie Major. He spent his childhood growing up in Castleford with his older brother Chuck, and his three younger siblings: Stanley, Bruce, and Janet.

In high school, Kenneth and his friends pulled the ultimate senior prank, which landed Kenneth in enough trouble to either have to pay a fine or join the military. He decided to join the Army and was stationed in France. Kenneth had many fond memories and stories of his time spent in the Army, including watching two children just casually drinking their own bottles of wine at dinner, handling the alcohol better than he and his fellow soldiers were. After the Army, Kenneth had aspirations to be a firefighter but was turned down because they said he had a crooked back and a heart murmur. He later found his career as an electrician.

In 1964, Kenneth married Bonnie and had three children: Patrick, Melissa, and Susan. They ended up moving to Portland, Oregon so they could be close to Bonnie’s family.

While living in Oregon, he worked as an electrician for the Port of Portland for 29 years. After leaving the shipyards, he started and ran his own business called Major Electric. Some customers turned out to be sweet old ladies who just needed something simple done like swapping out a lightbulb or a quick fuse change. He always had a soft spot for these customers and would never charge for the simple fixes. During his free time, he could be found in his woodworking shop, handcrafting jewelry boxes for all of his friends and family.

In 1989, Kenneth married Betty and in 2006, they adopted their two granddaughters, Haley and Lindsey, and moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where they raised the girls during their retirement.

Kenneth was known for being very kind, caring, and giving. He was laid back, and always enjoyed a good joke. His favorite place to frequent was The Ground Round, where he enjoyed a cold Budweiser with his brother Bruce. At the bar, everyone knew his name and greeted him with open arms. In his final years, he enjoyed time with family and watching his great grandchildren laugh and play.

Kenneth had a memorable life, and he will be missed by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Leslie, his wife Betty, brothers Chuck and Bruce, and a granddaughter, Haley. He is survived by many family members who love him, whole bunches, more than he’ll ever know.
