Michael David Smith

November 27, 1946 — March 17, 2025

Twin Falls

Michael David Smith, born November 27, 1947, in Onawa, Iowa, launched his final fishing trip on March 17, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho, surrounded by family.

Mike was the firstborn to William "Bill" Smith and Darlene Smith. Growing up in rural Iowa, he learned to love the outdoors and passed that passion down to his two boys. He graduated from high school and earned several degrees from three different colleges and universities, but his proudest achievement was at the University of Nebraska—he was a Cornhusker through and through.

Mike also served in the U.S. Air Force, where he earned an honorable discharge after his dedicated service to our country. He spent many years working as a correctional officer before finally settling in Idaho, where he spent the rest of his life.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and one grandchild. He leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure, along with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

Mike is survived by his sons, Adam Smith and his wife Leslie of Boise, ID, and Joel Smith and his wife Tasha of Twin Falls, ID. He is also survived by his nieces, Stephanie Smith and Jessica Dougherty of Boise, ID, and his brothers, Pat Smith of Medford, OR, and Wallace Smith of Benicia, CA.

Fair winds and tight lines—may your hooks always be full of fish. We love you.
