Nellie Florene (Holloway) (Stephens) Brown, age 90, of Jerome, Idaho passed away on June 16, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center.
Nellie was born on January 2, 1934, to John and Nellie (Clark) Holloway at their home in Jerome, ID. She grew up south of Twin Falls, Idaho, where her parents homesteaded 160 acres. She attended school on the Salmon Tract and graduated from Filer High School.
Nellie married Howard Stephens on February 21, 1954. They had 6 children before Howard’s passing on May 8, 1980. While raising the children, she ran a newspaper route alongside reporting and writing several articles for the local newspaper.
Nellie married Clarence Brown on October 26, 1985, gaining four daughters, and the two shared many happy memories before Clarence’s passing on June 2, 2018. The family made their home in Berger, south of Twin Falls; lived in Nampa for a few years while they managed a motel; and lived in Jackpot for a few years where Clarence was the RV park supervisor. Nellie loved visiting with people from all over. The family eventually returned to Berger to retire.
Nellie remained in Berger where her daughter, Julia, and son-in-law, Richard, helped care for her. Four and a half years ago, Nellie moved to Jerome where her son, Blaine, and daughter-in-law, Cindy, cared for her with help from others until her death. Colleen “Moke” took Nellie to church, shopping, and sometimes just a day out, which she lived for and enjoyed very much.
Nellie was an avid reader, enjoyed playing Boggle, traveling, and loved family and friends. Nellie was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Daughters of the American Revolution, and attended the Believers Church.
Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Nellie (Clark) Holloway; husband Howard Stephens; husband Clarence Brown; sister Dorothy (Holloway) Webb Fink; and brothers James Holloway and Lewis Holloway.
Nellie is survived by her brother Harvey Holloway; children Terry Cowart, Kelly (Mia) Stephens, Blaine (Cindy) Stephens, Lynn (Barbara) Stephens, Tracy Stephens, Julia (Richard) Leytham, Crystal (Ken) Terry, Beverly (Tim) Bunge, Nancy Dennis, Jodi (Mark) Rehburg, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
