Clarence Nolen Carter, 73 of Salmon passed away December 12, 2019 at his daughters home following a battle with cancer with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 23, 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Clarence "Buck" Nolen Carter and Anna Catherine Pinkston. Nolen was raised in the Castleford area. Nolen graduated from the Castleford High School in 1966 and went on to serve his county in the Army during Vietnam. Upon returning from the service he held many jobs. He worked as a well driller in Colorado, a guide in the back county of Idaho, a pizza cook, bartender, roofer, farmer, pawn broker, in addition to working for the Forest Service and finally retiring as a Jailer in Salmon. He married Linda Robertson and to this union were born two children – Clarence Nolen Carter III “Clancy” and Angie. He and Linda later divorced. He loved the outdoors and spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren camping, hunting and fishing. Nolen also enjoyed playing pool and grew to know many while playing on pool leagues through the years. Family time was treasured by Nolen, he often would head to the hills with grandchildren and friends children to share his intense knowledge of the outdoors. Nolen was a man of few words, but when he spoke you knew he had something important to say. He was respected by all who knew him and even loved by many that he cared for while they were in Jail. He was a strong man with firm convictions but always fair and giving to everyone. Nolen is survived by his son - Clancy Carter (Kasie Lyne) of Hamilton, Montana, daughter - Angie Stokes (Paul) of Salmon, grandsons – Kyle Carter of McCall, Idaho, Cameron Carter of Twin Falls, granddaughters – Lacie Oerke (Ryan) and Harli Stokes both of Salmon, along with great grandchildren – Gavin, Chasen, and Lilly. Step mother - Violet Carter Hutchison of Buhl, Sister – Noleen Pierce of Buhl, Brothers - Short Grimm of Castleford, Tom Grimm (Annette) of Huntington, Utah and a host of nieces and nephews and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother - Curtis Carter, Sisters - Pat Jackson, Fredee Burkhart, and Jeannie Reynolds. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd. in Twin Falls. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M.
