Phyllis Callen, age 86, of Buhl, Idaho, passed away at home Friday morning, January 3rd. Phyllis was born in Whittier, California on November 13, 1933. She graduated from Excelsior High School in 1951 in Norwalk, California. Phyllis met her future husband Deane Callen in high school. They were married on September 8th, 1951, and were happily married for 68 years. Phyllis loved gardening, art, and reading. She volunteered at Buhl Elementary School, teaching reading to young children and bringing reading to life through Readers Theater, often using plays she wrote herself. She was active on the local bowling league for years. Phyllis had a lively interest in world events, and enjoyed discussions with her husband and daughters. Phyllis was predeceased by her son and oldest daughter, Russell and Debbie Callen. She is survived by her beloved husband Deane; brother Neal Pinard of Lake Elsinore, California; daughter Cheryl Callen of San Marcos, California; daughter Janice Callen of Mesa Arizona; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Magic Valley Bible Church, Twin Falls, Idaho on January 9th at 1:00 P.M.
