Rod Smith On November 20th, 2022, Roderick (Rod) Craig Smith of Filer, Idaho was called home to his Heavenly Father. With his wife Sheila and daughter-in-law Jennifer by his side, his battle with cancer was over. Rod was born July 17, 1949, to Alvie and Nadine Smith in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the third child of four and spent his childhood in Rupert, in Arizona, and the Magic Valley area. Rod married Peggy Lee Cox in June of 1968. They had three children, Edna Marie, Shawna Lee and Charles Craig. They later divorced. Rod found the love of his life and married Sheila (Stokesberry) Ross on June 1st, 1985. They had Levi Forrest and Rod raised Dustin Dwight as his own. Rod defined himself by his work and his service to his country and community. From Cowboy, Ranching, Marine, Farming, Truck Driver, Mechanic, Firefighter, EMT to Self-Employment. Rod felt his greatest compliment came from his first wife Peggy when she expressed to him in later years that he turned out to be a great cowboy. Rod is survived by his wife Sheila, daughter Shawna (Brian) Wade, Craig (Jennifer) Smith, Dustin (Charlene) Ross, Levi (Samantha) Smith, brother John (Lorisa) Smith, sister-in-law Connie Smith, 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews Rod is preceded in death by his daughter Edna, great-granddaughter Carolann, sister IvaMarie, brother Larry, his parents Alvie and Nadine, grandparents William and Zoe Smith, Elmer and Hazel Rousseau. Rod & Sheila wish to express their deep love and gratitude to everyone who has helped them and their family through this very difficult journey. The list is long and has overwhelmed us from the beginning. The blessings the lord has bestowed on this family are beyond words or measure. Thank you to Darian, Tonya, and all the angels sent to us through Visions Hospice. Thank you from our entire family to everyone for the prayers, the kind words, the touch to just say I am here if you need me, the dinners, cards, surprise flower deliveries, gift cards, phone calls, texts, and just the love and support that has helped carry us through this journey. Services will be held Monday, November 28th, at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to be made to Fellowship Community Church or an organization of your choice.
