Ruth Marilyn Rahe (1931 – 2023) Ruth Rahe, 92, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died in Twin Falls on November 15, 2023, of causes related to age. She was born in Long Beach, California, on July 29, 1931, to Julius and Alma Billiar. Ruth grew up in Buhl, Idaho, graduating from Buhl High School in 1949. Based on her graduation year, she referred to herself as a “49er.” In 1953, she graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. After her graduation from Valparaiso, Ruth taught high school English for one year at Wendell High School in Wendell, Idaho. She then moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she worked for Lincoln Life and met her future husband, Donald Rahe, who was stationed as an officer in the United States Air Force there. They married in 1956 and were married for 63 years until Don’s death in 2019. Ruth assisted her husband when he opened his CPA office in Twin Falls. She enjoyed learning new things and became proficient in bookkeeping and using the computer, continuing to do bookkeeping into her 80s. Ruth was a woman of faith. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she was confirmed and married. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, attending several national conventions and volunteering to bring food for funeral meals. She and Don were pedal pushers (decorators) for the Lutheran-sponsored Rose Bowl Parade Float in Pasadena once. Ruth was also an avid card player. She attained Silver Level Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. She and Don also took multiple “bridge” cruises, playing duplicate bridge and earning points when the ship was at sea. When she was not playing competitive bridge, she enjoyed playing cards with her family, taking great delight in besting her children and grandchildren in card games. Ruth enjoyed bowling, and she and Don were active in bowling leagues for many years. She loved all types of puzzles and famously worked on an extremely difficult jigsaw puzzle taking a year to complete it with mandatory assistance from all members of the family. She also had a large garden, canning much of her produce when she was raising her family. Her fruit pies were legendary with her family as no one could make a pie crust like Ruth could. When Ruth and Don were not playing bridge or bowling, they traveled widely. They took several trips with the International Lions Clubs including going to China and Hong Kong in the 1990s. One of their favorite trips was a trip to Germany where they saw the Passion Play. They also enjoyed their cruise through the Panama Canal. In 2017, they took their children and grandchildren on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Ruth was an Idahoan through and through and, while she loved her travels, she always looked forward to returning home to her beloved Idaho and family. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rahe, and one daughter, Karen Rahe Weston. She is survived by her daughter Deborah McIntosh (Daniel), daughter Barbara Tesnohlidek (Tony), and son Stephen Rahe (Pam). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 4-6 pm at Wilks Funeral Home (formerly Parks). A funeral service will take place Monday November 20, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served following the service at the church.
